Grayson Allen just went full Laettner

Just another example showing that when Duke needs a call or non call to win a game they get it.It has happened for years and is still alive and well today. It seems when it comes to officiating in college basketball Duke getting favorable treatment is one of few consistencies

Eh. A missed call, but they also missed the ridiculous bump he was given by the defender when he picked up the dribble. You can see the defenders left arm go waving out on the impact. Oh, and the defender was sliding along.

here is a gif showing what should have been called. Defender literally rode Allens shoulder so hard that he was momentarily lifted off his feet,

So... Sorry they missed it, but if refs were just consistent, and called the last few seconds like they did the rest of the game, he would have won it on foul shots, which is exactly what he was aiming for. The reason he was off balance in the first place, and he moved his feet so much, was because he was fouled.

No doubt Duke gets more than their fair share of favorable calls but I would guess about 75% of home teams would have received the same treatment by the refs in that situation. That would have been a really tough call to make in real time without the benefit of a dvr. Refs tend to let things play out a little more than usual on last second shot plays to decide games. BTW....I hate Duke.

I hate duke...vehemently....

...but it seems like they swallowed there whistle as they could have called a walk or a foul.. I don't believe it was a foul as he went straight up, but I wouldn't have been surprised to see it called.

Having said that, since they did not call a foul, it was definitely a walk

So the defense is supposed to give him a free route to the basket.?

Defender has hands up and slide his feet in front of Allen.

No, he didn't. Hands weren't vertical (watch the broadcast camera replay), feet were not in front of Allen, and you aren't allow to bump opposing players. Allen was fouled. Refs swallow their whistles consistently in the last few seconds of a game, and did again in this case. You can hate that habit (i certainly do) but it is what it has become.

Listen, you can be pissed Duke won; if the situations were reversed, I'd be gnashing my teeth, too. But it is more about the "Darn it, last possible second!" thing of a hated team losing.

Doesnt bother me if Duke wins, helps us out.

It is the piss poor officiating that gives you guys a crutch every year.

And yes the man had his right arm straight up all the way and left arm extended out.

If his feet were not in front of Allen, how did the walker run into the defenders chest on the shot?

Can you see their feet in the image below? The one where his foot is on the ground prior to the shot?

The defender obviously beat him to the spot, as his back is to the goal and in front of the walker.

The defender was not IN FRONT of Allen when the bump occurred... he was on his shoulder, literally riding him along.

And then the defender did not have his hands straight up immediately after the bump (you can see the defenders left hand shooting out from the impact at the same time.)

The shot you are showing happened 1.4 seconds later... and yes, when a big athletic guy crashes into you, your feet often go askew;)

Again... missed foul call that clearly should have been called. Missed walk call.

In the second picture, "when the foul occurred", the defender is standing straight up with his right arm straight in the air.

The walker is falling/leaning/ driving his shoulder into the defender who is positioned between the walker and the basket.

You better check that you dont have Dickie V's bad eye in...

Man, some of you guys really hate Duke.

Didn't use to. When they were starting to challenge UNCheat's dominance in the ACC, I was on board. Then they started to get the favoritism that K complained that UNCheat got. Then the Mike Patrick and Dukie Vs came along and made watching their games nauseating. Then came the players who were so easy to hate, and finally came the NCAA giving them a total pass in the Maggette and Lance Thomas cases. Of course part of it is the fact that they have won so many titles in the last 25 yrs, but mostly it's the other stuff.

^ all the above

Terrible missed walking call... I'd bet my left nut that if Douche's Allen had missed the shot (defenders sometimes stop defending after a guy travels... Shouldn't but do), I do so wonder if We'd have had a late whistle giving Allen free throws... Actually no need to wonder... It's Douche...at Cameron.

That had to be one of the ugliest shots ever made or attempted. And how in the world can a ref miss someone taking 27 steps while going from the three point line, to the sideline, back to the free throw line, and then the basket without taking one single dribble!!!! Lol. Only at Puke could this sort of thing happen!!!!!

I'd love for Duke to lose a couple guys early again and make K start the whole thing over next year.

I think you'll get your wish. Ingram was one and done from the start and Allen's playing more than well enough to be a 1st round pick, especially in a weak draft. My guess would be he'll go to the NBA. Plumlee will need to be replaced as well. He's played better than I expected. We'll see on Amile Jefferson. Still no timetable on a potential return. If he doesn't return this season, I do believe he'd be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt to come back for next season since he would have played in under 30 percent of their games.

Good news for Duke is the guys returning will be another year older and I do fully expect Giles, Tatum and Jackson will provide more of an immediate impact as a whole than this year's class did. Heck, I bet Javin DeLaurier will be better than Jeter has been as a freshman (not that this is saying much).

Did his foot hit before or after he released? There has been no mention of it in the thread as yet.

Pictures show his foot hit before he released the ball, so by definition, that would be a travel. Although I personally thought he was fouled on his way to the basket. Either way, I've seen worse happen in Cameron for an opposing team. Yes, I'm admitting it. Clemson in 2007 got quite a raw deal with the clock.

Everyone in college basketball gets a little home cooking from time to time, but basketball history in the last 25 years is littered with examples of Duke games in which the opponent was blatantly cheated out of wins or chances to win games.Syracuse last year or a couple of years ago comes to mind

Doug Sirmons just did an analysis of the play. Said Va, player should have been called for a foul for hitting Allen in the elbow with his face.
