Hard to believe, but we’ve wrapped up Popes first ooc run as the UK coach.

11-2 record, beat Duke, Zaga, and UL. Started the season ranked #23 and rose all the way up to #4. Two things I hoped for in the preseason were to go above .500 in the big ooc games (3-2) and not lose to any crappy teams in Rupp (9-0).

The OSU loss was bad, but overall this ooc run was solid. I think I’d give it an A-.

If someone told me going into conference play UK would be 11-2. I'd take that all day long.
Obviously. Given expectations going into season, A from me. That’s far from saying it has been perfect but it has been significantly better than I could have reasonably expected going into the year and we beat the two best teams on our schedule. I think anything lower than that is a bit of revisionist history

As a 35-year educator I'm accustomed to evaluation and assigning a grade, so here goes....
9-0 in Rupp A+
2-2 away from Rupp B
0-1 in true road game B+ for the performance
0-1 for a real laid egg D
2-0 for Duke and Gonzaga A+
Extra credit for what Pope has done to bring excitement back to BBN

Overall grade Solid A

I’m leaning more A than A-. There is still no strong case right now that any school in the entire country has a better pair of wins than our best two. And both our losses came away from home against quite respectable teams, even if we did look like ass against Ohio State.

If we'd been a pre-season top five team I could see a B+ but for a team not starting in the top 20 I'd have to give UK an A- or A. After 13 games we'd have to have only one loss for me to give them an A+(for a preseason top five it would have to be 13-0 for an A+).

B

A until Ohio State. A game that was sobering in its elimination of UK as a serious title contender. A title team doesn’t get embarrassed by a mediocre team like that. The fatal flaws exposed in that game were worthy of a full grade drop.

Agreed easy A- for me. Almost did everything we could have asked. I would like to see us play a little better for an entire game. Run the offense a lot better like we did early in the year. We played one poor game which happens around the holidays especially. Had we not thrown up a complete turd in the an Ohio State game it would be an A+. We have a better OOC resume than many of Cal’s last 6-7 years.

The more I think of the NY trip, 2 proposals and enjoying NYC, the more I realize Pope, coaches and team overlooked OHST.

They had a great holiday trip to NYC.

Other than that D for that game the rest everything from the time of the press conference in the spring till Dec 31st, it is an A to A++.

All together it makes the grade A- to B+ overall till now.

SEC will be the Masters course this year. Get through SEC not losing at home and pic up a couple of good road wins and this is a solid year. We will find out if we have learned the early lessons early Saturday. Hope this team wakes up hungry for some Gator Meat!!!!!

B plus

Ohio State dropped us a letter grade.
Very fair. I am glad we bounced back nicely. Hitting 10 3’s is a good sign going forward. If we stop taking so many hard 3’s an instead get back to kicking out passes and of an open catch we will continue to knock down double digit 3’s every game.

I wanna see Almonor/Noah/Perry situationally because the ball moves and they can shoot it. It is evident we need Jaxson Robinson to be more aggressive. We need Oweh on the court as much as possible, Butler and Carr need to continue to be aggressive. I’d like to see Butler continue to drive but look to pass more to the open man again. When we get Carr going on the block and him rotating out to the perimeter to knock down shots it opens up our offense so much more.

Lastly I want to see Garrsion continue to improve and get more minutes as the season goes along. I liked Amari’s effort and FT shooting yesterday. I think the minute split between them was pretty good.

Based off of preseason ranking and realistic expectations, I'd say a sold A. I thought 3-4 losses were likely. So to end up with only 2 losses with massive wins over Duke and Gonzaga, it's hard to complain.

I'm tempted to give an A+ just for the fact the Pope has returned my Joy for UK basketball.

Was the OSU game not in Rupp? were we 9 - 0 or 8 - 1. sorry, I went brain dead MSG in NY. Getting old is tough.

A-. It's hard to describe how much the fanbase needed the Duke win. Throw in the big comeback against Gonzaga and holding serve against UL at home, and this was a successful OOC.

Losing at Clemson is no sin. The Ohio state game was a real clunker but there is no UK fan that woudn't have traded losses to Clemson and Ohio state for wins against Duke ,UL , and Gonzaga.
