Gotta start a healthy Hawkins over Briscoe, right?

I know Cal loves Briscoe's toughness, but dont you get the same toughness and D with Hawkins but with more offensive skill and experience?

I thought Mulder played surprisingly well. Solid on defense, 8 rebounds, hit his free throws and hit a 3.

I thought Mulder actually struggled on D. Regardless maybe you spot Murray with Mulder and have Briscoe run point to spell Ullis now and then.

If Briscoe doesn't get hurt before the Louisville game, we probably lose because Hawkins had the game of his life, sad but true.

Uh, no. Hawkins scores in double figures for the first time of his 3 year career and you're benching starters? Might want to think a little harder about that. Briscoe is in somewhat of a slump but has still scored more points in his last 5 games than Hawk has in any season he has been here. At the least I'd have to see more out of Hawkins before even thinking about changes.

I think Mulder put himself in the mix at the 3. He's had several chances this year though. Willis and Mulder are both players that could really help us.. We just need an enforcer down low and we simply don't have it..

Hawkins has shown flashes of being able to contribute. Cal has relied on him before. I know Briscoe is the five star but Hawkins might be better right now.

This.

Matthews go very little run tonight. Another juggernaut offensive player Cal recruited

Still dont understand folks' love affair with Briscoe. Kid is tough but skill-wise is just not there...and This team just isnt talented enough offensively to have him playing major minutes.

Hawkins has to play to put up numbers. With the makeup of this team we need players on the floor that can make shots. I don't think I have ever witnessed a UK team this weak on the interior.

Yes..... Briscoe could not hit a f/t if he was 2 feet from the rim. He is hurting this team now.

Briscoe shooting 35% from FT line after tonight. You just cant justify his minutes at that clip. Not to mention he is zero threat outside 2 feet.

Neither Briscoe, or Hawkins are interior players though. Hawkins hasn't earned more minutes or he'd been playing. You say he makes shots? He has a career avg of 29% shooting, freshman Briscoe is shooting 46%. On what factual basis can you make a case for Hawkins over Briscoe?

Assumptions don't win games, and while Briscoe has flaws their quite a bit smaller than Hawkins flaws to this point.

If I were other teams I would most certainly do the Hack-a-Briscoe. Maybe he should try left handed or underhand?

John, I think youre thinking about Briscoes recruiting ranking and not the eye test. You cant justify the minutes at that FT and FG shooting clip.

Hawkins and Mulder should get the bulk of Briscoe's minutes. Hawkins is just as good a defender and Mulder is a much better shooter and rebounder. Heck Mulder is a better rebounder than Skal. There is no reason to feature Brick because he us not a OAD.

Briscoe's only time on the court should be to spell Ulis & Murray. At the most 10 min/game. He is the worst shooter @ guard I have ever seen. He should not be allowed to shoot unless 5 feet or closer. I would develop Mulder at the 2 & 3 since the boy can shoot.

If Hawkins was a 5 star I guarantee you he would be the one starting if Briscoe was the one who was a 3 star from Richmond.
Briscoe has the skill level of a 3 star over ranked badly. I never watched him in person in HS but wished I did.

What chances have Mulder had? He has had very few meaningful minutes. He is another player that Cal has forced to look over his shoulders because he fears that a single mistake will send him to the bench.

Yep.. He's hard on all the subs but someone has to emerge.. Tonight Mulder emerged with eight rebounds.. Willis is getting tougher and better too.. It's fine to second guess the coach, that's what fans do, but we're almost always wrong.. lol

One of those players will win a game for us later this season.. Maybe with the season on the line..

You guys need to take a look at Hawkins career shooting numbers and remember he was lights out against Louisville to raise them to those lofty levels of 20% on threes and 52% from the line but yes let's pull the plug on Briscoe because Hawkins shot well once.

Hawkins has never gotten the most important part of a players game that Briscoe has....Coaches vote of confidence. Hawks numbers have been put up in spot duty minutes, never allowed to get in the flow of the game like he did against uofl. Not saying I think Dom goes 3-4 from 3 every game but he brings a lot more versatility to the offense than briscoe does.

My point about having a weak interior is to counter that you have to have exceptional perimeter play and briscoe cannot offer that. Ulis and Murray "can" and Dom can help support that, briscoe is just a perimeter liability and shoots worse than Shaq at the free throw line. 39% going into tonight's game and his average dropped (almost impossible to do).

Briscoe will continue to start because of his defense and rebounding but Hawkins will be eating some of the Briscoes minutes when we need shooting on the floor and probably will take his end of game minutes due to Briscoes liability at the free throw line.

Mulder was terrible on defense tonight. I agree Hawkins needs more pt over Briscoe

When was Mulder terrible on D? I can name multiple plays of terrible defense on Willis, Ulis, Murray, etc but do not remember Mulder getting beat "terribly".
