Goodman: McDermott Meeting with Ohio State Tonight

I can see Bennett, and Kruger being called as well. I'm sure rick Barnes has already removed himself from consideration. If stansbury didn't already have a stud recruiting class coming in I could see him being called

You fire Matta for McDermott? A guy who is 57-53 in conference at Creighton without his son garnering 1st Team All American. This could be a completely botched process by Gene Smith.

If this is true...well, I am completely shocked. And wrong. I believed (still believe) that Coach Mack was already in their pocket.

So they go from a guy in Matta who focused big time on defense to McDermott who has focused big time on offense lol

He may do a good job at Ohio ST.
He has zero track record saying he will be any good. His last 2 jobs have been at Iowa State and Creighton.

At Iowa State, he went 59-68. The coach before him went 55-39 and the coach after him went 115-56.
At Creighton, without his son, he is 59-44 (.573 winning percentage). The coach before him went 248-98 in his last 10 seasons at Creighton (.717 wining percentage).

You just don't fire your coach a few months before the season starts at a school like Ohio State to bring in a guy like McDermott.

I like it. Anything Ohio State can do to go to the bottom is fine with me.
McDermott isn't a bad hire imo..I know he recruits very well for a school like creighton. Chris Mack and Lon Kruger might be slightly better choices, especially Mack, I think he might coach for a blue blood one day,

I always think of McDermott as a Northern Iowa guy. Completely forgot that he was at Iowa State for a few years. Maybe something bad happened at Ohio St that is scaring the better coaches away?

After mack said no, I would have tried to get Fred Hoiberg. The Bulls are going to suck for years to come and he was pretty good at Iowa St

If you're Ohio state, and your best option really is a mediocre coach at Creighton, you sure as hell cant let that go public.

It's one thing for Billy Donovan to say no. When the guy at Creighton turns you down, that's terrible for perception. You have to keep that quiet until he's your coach.

Agreed, this could get REALLY ugly for Ohio St

What about the prick with the drunk wife from Kansas, what's that schools name?? At least he has some success compared to the others being thrown out.
Who said she was drunk? She was just a typical over the top female/wife (I kid, I kid-really, married 21 years)

hard to imagine firing a guy (if it wasn't his idea) this late in the season and not have a replacement lined up.

Its a tough leap for a credible coach to make given that recruiting season is already over.

It's possible but I doubt it. Mack has had offers better than OSU and loves the family situation in Cincy (lives in NKY). He has a great program and doesn't have to play second fiddle to a big time football program, He has an excellent returning roster at X. I say he stays. They would be better served to reach out for Frank Martin or Bennett or the coach at Butler.

Rick Stansbury, like many women at last call, is starting to look pretty good to my ol buddy Gene Smith right now.

There may be more money at OSU but he wouldn't do any better at OSU than he is doing now.
