Got a conference coming up in Indy. A hospital downtown by IUPUI. Need some help.

-Areas to avoid staying in?
-Areas to get a cheaper room on the fringe of town.......for instance, the airport area has cheaper hotels but is it worth it to be out there?
-Restaurants? The conference runs long hrs so super upscale places are likely out of the question.

Avoid the east side but otherwise you should be fine. The two eclectic areas that aren't really upper scale are Fountain Square and Broad Ripple. Plenty of food/late night between those two areas, with Fountain Square a lot closer to downtown. Try Spoke & Steele downtown for grub. Relatively newer place and I've heard a lot of good things about it. Check out their menu, looks good.

Fogo de Chao if you love steak/red meat.

Oceanaire has great seafood.

Osteria Pronto in the JW Marriott has pretty solid Italian.

Kilroy's downtown is a good bar scene. Wear UK gear to ensure you piss off everyone there.

Stay as close as you possibly can to Rock Bottom Brewery. Best local, non-chain restaurant in Indy.

How much you need? I'll donate $25.

Will you have a car or do you plan to take a taxi? What kind of crowd and vibe do you want? How much do you want to spend?

I prefer Broad Ripple and am friends with the owner at Jazz Kitchen. Broad Ripple will give you both a Butler/college crowd and an older crowd. On the other hand, Broad Ripple wouldn't be a cheap taxi ride from the airport ($35-55)

Mass Ave has lots of bar and some quality food options. I've heard Pizzology on Mass Ave is decent but I've never been. Rathskeller is a good German beer hall.

If you can swing it then I'd check out St. Elmo's for steak -- at least go and try the shrimp cocktail.

As a UK fan, management at Tin Roof -- typically our home bar for games in Indy -- will appreciate your patronage.
