In all honesty had UM played it cool and took Barb as Cal wanted then things would of been different.

Word in Memphis is he's negotiating a deal (his buyout is 10.6 mil) to resign without taking all of the money owed. Easterwood has told me personally that the school wants to part ways next season for 3 million. He also told me they want Pearl but he has a 5 million dollar stipulation to leave Auburn and has a great recruiting class coming in next year anyway (13th by rivals). With the conference probably losing Uconn and Cincinatti, Memphis is going to be mid major in a way like they've never been before, even dating back to the metro. Add the Grizzlies being the prominent basketball team in the city now, and I don't know what coach is going to even want the job.

The days of the Memphis tigers being relevant in college basketball are over.

I'm sure Cal is ecstatic.

Well considering Barbee flopped pretty hard at auburn, I doubt he would have done much better at UM. I like him as an assistant though

They think the upside of Pastner was more, and Barb had a ceiling. That's the justification.

I disagree. Cal would have hand fed top 25 classes to UM with Barb there. When Pastner dirty recruited against Cal for Barton while Cal was in China, that was the end.

Wow.....Just got a phone call from a buddy of mine that works for some big time Memphis Boosters.

Barbee is in play for the Memphis job if they can work out Pastners exit this year. They say they don't think Pearl would take it with the conference being so shaky now, and with Pastners buyout and Pearl contract @ Auburn it's a no go. They think Barbee might be able to resemble his UTEP success at Memphis.....they think Auburn was just a bad job for him.

for whoever is interested. TIFWIW.....The guy is a friend of mine I coach his two sons in football. He's connected in a crazy way.

I'd rather not lose Barbee, but he would for sure take it, and wouldn't cost too much.
