Georgia 3.14

I watched most of the game. Pretty depressing, to be honest. UGA is not that great and we jumped all over them early, but were outclassed after the first few innings:

-Home plate ump was really squeezing both teams. UGA was pissed in the top of the first about it and we made them pay with the 3 run homer after getting multiple walks.
-To me, the quality of the pitching staff is down from last year. Last year, Nove and Byers were complimentary pieces, but this year they're positioned as the main guns coming out of the pen. Not good.
-Ming just really struggles to recruit any power. We do not hit homers like most of our competition does.
-Way too many dead spots in this lineup. Our catcher is hitting .100. Our second baseman is hitting less than .200. Hage looks like a keeper. Devo seems to have rediscovered his bat. Bell looks like a talent. But we go through very long droughts at the plate without any sort of hard contact or baserunners.
-We had a chance to extend our 6-4 lead at one point, had runners on first and second with one out and their pitcher was struggling. For some reason, we had Burkes try to steal third and he was easily thrown out. The next pitch we got a single which would have been an RBI. Could have been a big inning but instead we got zero. Not sure it would have made a difference but it was a turning point.

Last night made me more pessimistic about the year, but today is a new day.

Would like to see a couple of the younger guys get some at bats. Hudson Brown has looked really good in limited chances and Schwartz couldn’t do any worse than Pelt has

Lawrence is hitting .270 with an OBP over .400. He's been fine at second. Injuries is what is hurting most right now. Lost the starting CF. Hindle is out right now. Lost two pitchers before the season who were going to be in leverage spots, as well as Hogan not finding his form yet. Pelletier's defensive metrics are actually better than Burkes and they are trying to keep both fresh because Burkes was exhausted the last two months last season.

On the CS, Burkes tried to vault into a big lead at 2B and got picked. Staff wasn't happy. It was not a straight steal.

IMHO we looked like a bunch of guys who had never seen a SEC Friday night environment, which they haven't.
