Georgetown-Duke on now

I'm NOT a Duke fan in the least! I do however want Duke to win these types of games. But ONLY because I don't want any of their losses to take away from what was a fairly good beaten that Kentucky put on Duke. The final score of our game with Duke, did not truly show how much better UK is then Duke.

Allen is OVER RATED as all heck. Will someone please push him to the LEFT HAND ?? I cant stand that punk. I hope someone breaks his ass in half this year.

They're going to eek this one out, and it's good for us that they won. We already showed them who's boss.

GT had a great chance to win that game. I was torn between my natural hatred of Duke and my wanting our win over them to remain significant.

I can not believe I agree with this poster as he rarely has sane opinions but he is correct on this. Kid is good but nothing more. He flops and fouls and is one ugly SOB . He is a good player but Thornton and Ingram are Duke's 2 most talented players . Kennard is way down that list . Cal picked the right guy in Matthews as one day Matthews will be an NBA player the likes that Bogans was while Kennard will go the way or someone like Jimmer Ferdette .

I remember wanting Ingram really bad. He has not been good so far this year. It's still early but he seems at least a year away from being a star caliber guy.

Allen always drives right when will teams finally realize that and force him to go left?

Isn't Jimmer Ferdette still in the NBA? "Good but nothing more"? :joy:

dUKe tried to choke it away.

Good thing they did a solid job knocking down their foul shots down the stretch save for Thornton's two misses (they struggled at the line against VCU) because their defense in that last minute wasn't very good after performing quite well for a good stretch in the second half. Dumb fouls and poor three point defense nearly cost em at the end. Thornton did a nice job on Copeland in the last 5 seconds.

I won't argue against Matthews, but Duke fans would be very happy if Kennard had the college career Fredette did.

I hope Allen has a great season and leaves after this year. Thornton too. I want Duke as weak as possible next season when Giles, Tatum, and Jackson flop their way to Durham.

It's probably not a good thing that Allen scores half your points. It makes you vulnerable to a coach who has the gameplan and the personnel to shut him down.

May be time for Kentucky fans to re-calibrate the Duke win. They ain't all that good. It was still a solid win, but not a Top 5 titanic struggle.

Duke is not a top 10 team, and I don't think they will be all season. Wouldn't surprise me if they lose double digit games.

Curious minds want to know..........
What 10 teams are better?:flushed:

I do think Grayson will have an excellent year. He won't see the combination of physical, athletic wings on the perimeter and multiple top 50 big guys to wall him off when he drives like he saw with Kentucky. Thornton will be more up and down, I'm sure, but he's at least given Duke hope at the point guard spot for this season with the games in New York. This is as opposed to last week when myself and many Duke fans were saying how not ready he is.

Cal is the man because he cuts to the quick and tells his team exactly what he wants done. With Grayson Cal told the team no spot up shots and no going right. If Grayson can bounce it then shoot then he can have it but he is not going to get any free spot up shots and he isn't going to drive the ball to his right without a quicker defender in his jockstrap. Cal also told the team in warmups that Duke was not athletic enough to stop our dribble penetration.

Cal never gets the credit he deserves for his genius in strategy. I maintain he is one of the best ever at knowing exactly what he wants out of a player. That's why Cal is so great with freshmen. Cal knows exactly what he wants, what will be effective, and how to communicate it.

Here's hoping he does well the rest of the way out. K will undoubtedly try to convince him he needs a second year if there is ray of hope that he needs another season.

Not to say Allen will keep scoring 30 a game save for the UK game, but no other college coach in America has the type of personnel Calipari does.

Duke's talent is comparable to UK's. You get as many 5 stars as we do and every year it is Duke or UK with the #1 class. Granted it is usually UK. We don't get the whistle Duke does because if we did then Cal would have 3-4 more NCs already. Definitely 2 more with Duke whistles.

Heck, even if UK just got neutral whistles I'd be fine. Last year as an undefeated team we still got jobbed by Wisconsin in a FF game with several crucial calls down the stretch. Doesn't get any worse than that.

Duke has experience down low, but they don't have a talent like Skal nor do they have three point guards they can play together on the perimeter.

I haven't seen any help from Jeter so far........MPIII is not a high min player.....
I like Duke best with Jefferson and Ingram and 3 guards.
Allen is much better paired with Thorten @ PG...

Jeter did give some quality minutes in the first half today. I had my own personal opinion of watching a couple of Jeter's high school highlight tapes that he wouldn't be an immediate high impact player. Just didn't see this player who could dominate in the post, was overly athletic or anything else that really stood out aside from him showing some solid range on his jump shot (which I haven't seen yet at Duke). Plumlee is what he is. A player who can bring energy in spurts while providing some rebounds, blocked shots and a couple easy buckets here and there. You're correct in him not being a high minute player. I'd like Duke best with Jefferson and Ingram up front as well, but Ingram is very much a work in progress. I'd like to see more Jeter as well, but he's more of a work in progress than Ingram is.

No argument from me on Allen being much better off at shooting guard with Thornton at the point guard spot. Allen can do a lot offensively, but he's not a point guard.

Kennard showed a little fight today. Wouldn't surprise me if he has a better year than Ingram.

It's comparable from a star standpoint, no doubt there, but Duke simply doesn't have three guys like Ulis, Murray and Briscoe who can not only score, but also facilitate/run an offense the way they can. They may be finding one in Thornton, but one still wouldn't equal three. Duke does have a five star big guy in this class, but he's not on the talent level of Skal and although Jefferson and Plumlee are experienced, they don't have that level of talent, either.

You took the words right out of my mouth....Allen is going to average 20 points per game this year we take for granted how long and athletic our squad is. Very very few other teams have the defensive personnel and talent we do. Defense is going to be the issue for Duke all season. Ingram and Kennard have been turn stills on the perimeter so far and they don't have a rim protector. Plumlee and Jefferson are good individual defenders but not very great help defenders or shot blockers so when the perimeter defense breaks down and it will they can't clean up the mess. They will still be a lock for a top #5 seed.

Kennard showed a little fight today. Wouldn't surprise me if he has a better year than Ingram.

It was good to see him hit a couple shots from the floor in this game. I think he's close to getting some threes to fall. A lot of them are just rolling in and out. I'm not too worried about him. We'll see how both develop over the course of the season. At least with Kennard, Duke will get to see him develop over the course of three or four years and he'll hit his potential as a college player. With Ingram, that may not happen. He may be going the route of Kelly Oubre at this point.

Switch the player and team names around and some posters look amazingly similar to UL posters...

On their boards right now...

"UK is not a Top 10 team"...

"Briscoe is a punk"...

"multiple UK players are way overrated"...
