These tunnels drilled through the middle of a mountain divert the Clover Fork and Cumberland River away from downtown Harlan, KY.

These look similar to some on the way to the Smokes in Tennessee, only the ones I see are limestone mines.

I was on a flight back to CVG a few weeks ago from Denver and sat next to a family who decided to make the trip out to KY for a vacation to just see this attraction in Williamstown, KY.

About 50 years ago I was rabbit hunting on top of this hill in Madison County. Didn’t see any rabbits, but found this scrubby little tree with a small fence around it and a marker indicating that it was the birthplace of Kit Carson. I had driven by this hill for several years and had no idea. The city of Richmond is currently building a huge soccer park on this hillside range and will also honor Kit Carson’s birthplace. I found the attached video with pics of the birthplace and marker.

Yes. It's at an entrance to the old Ft. Thomas Army Base named for Union Gen. George Thomas of the Civil War. The base is now mainly a beautiful city park.
