Two of my favorite movies of his are Uncommon Valor and Behind Enemy Lines.
When I first saw it years ago I thought the same thing. Evidently there's a directors cut that ties a lot of loose ends up. I'm going to have to watch that version.

French Connection was one of my dad's favorite movies. I never watched it all the way through until this weekend. Gene Hackman is an all timer, as is Al Pacino.
That was irl, but she seemed younger in the movie. Anyway, they didn't look like a couple. It didn't move the plot. Might as well have gone full 80s and showed her bewbs in the locker room.
Coach should have gone after the mom. She's the one who made the move to invite him over for dinner.
The one kid came back because his dad dragged him back and made him apologize to the coach and ask for his spot back. Was that not Buddy?
I'm pretty sure I own this dvd, but I don't remember ever watching these deleted scenes.

The one thing that bugged me was the whole "no school this small has ever gone this far" vibe. Basketball was only like 20 years old at that point. Maybe 30. It would be like someone saying that about a volleyball team today. I know, trivial. But it always made me think they were stretching it too far.

I had never seen it either until this week. Really good movie. The car chase seen was sick. Only strange scene was miraculously putting the car back together with the drugs still in it after tearing it into tiny pieces. Maybe I missed something, but I was like WTF just happened??
She died 7 days before him. He had alzheimers and couldn't take care of himself. She had a virus that is transferred from rodents to people.

Very sad but it makes complete sense. Can't reverse things now but man, really wish they had a caretaker or someone who looked in on them every couple days.
Most 65 year olds don't need that. Apparently, the virus changed that.
For sure. Just sucks how things played out. Taking care of a husband at that stage who as it turns out was about to die plus caring for a dog who recently had a procedure, it seems like a lot. At least we know. Thought it'd still be a while longer.
His children are terrible people for not keeping in better contact.
Despite the technology to communicate making it easier, it seems often that it isn't used. I am guilty myself. Not with parents.
We had something similar happen about 20 years ago. The house across the street was an invalid woman and her daughter who was taking care of her. The daughter wound up taking a heart attack and dying and the woman was incapable of calling for help herself. She was by herself for about 2 days before someone checked on her. The house was rented out from then on.

I think it was one of those deals where the wife comes in and doesn't get along with the husband's children and controls the communication. Happens a lot when men remarry.
Terrible was not the right choice of word to use but it is evident there wasn’t great deal of consistent communication between the children and himself.
I've seen where the second wife set the boundaries and the adult children just weren't in their father's life. In Hackman's case, his second wife was the same age as his son.
My friend was in a similar situation. His second wife passed. No children from his second marriage and now his adult children from his first marriage are back in his life.
I just think it's terribly sad that the hackman's were so isolated that no one missed them.
Let's don't get carried away. Many reasons children may not be in contact with parents other than they are terrible.
Some parents and step parents are terrible as well.
