Gators at Cats

Looking like we will lose this series. Another loss Tuesday morning in single elimination is very possible.

If we do and ISU is in our region…. Look out, this season could be over soon with a weak finish.

The loss today kept anything from being locked as far as hosting. However, if UK wins Tuesday then they will be a regional host. Lose and maybe not. UK has to make a serious run in Hoover to get a top 8 National Seed at this point. UK went 4-6 in SEC series this year. That’s not National Seed stuff unfortunately.

Very good breakdown and seeing it written out I probably feel better about Kentucky’s hosting odds.

-Cats will outkick Bama with the head-to-head and RPI.
-Texas/WVU & Miami/Duke are playing elimination games today. Can’t imagine the losers of either of those games will host.
-There will be 1 northeast host. Don’t think BC and UConn will host.
-Campbell is out with their loss to Upstate. I imagine 1 of that trio will host.

I think you're right on Bama.

Auburn now ahead of us at 17-13 (though behind us in RPI).

UT is killing USC in the rubber match so they have tied us but own the head to head. I heard the commentator say that they are locked into the 9 seed in Hoover. Hopefully, we are not the 8.

Agreed on WVU and Duke, though we got no favors from Clemson and UVA this weekend.

I'm still nervous, and I worry that a Tuesday loss in Hoover may have us out.

Good breakdown of all the teams in the mix and what's at stake today, even if I don't completely agree that it's dicey for UK with a loss today. But I agree that IF UK doesn't host, I'm sure the committee will point to 4-6 in SEC series. That seems like something they'd do.

A winning league record in the toughest conference in college baseball should guarantee UK a spot based on how strong its overall resume is. UK has the most Q1 wins in all of college baseball and played just 10 games all season outside of the RPI top 100. Based on today's RPI, UK is 10-7 against teams ranked in the top 12 of the RPI. I'd honestly be stunned if UK wasn't selected to host.

I agree, and your logic is sound. IMO, a 4-6 series record is a black mark (especially considering two of the losses are to UGA and A&M), but the top end wins are outstanding. Also, we avoided sweeps by all of the good teams except vandy where we coughed up the Sunday game.

But, when have we ever been given any kind of a break from the NCAA selection committee? We were screwed a couple of times not getting in the last few years, we got screwed the one year when we had an outstanding year and they sent us to Gary, IN.

This year, there are 9 SEC teams with hosting resumes so I guess I'm expecting a screw job.

I was at today's game. It's sickening that Strick lost that game as he was absolutely on fire today.

I wanted to kill Ming when he tried to squeeze Burkes home early in the game. Just mindnumbingly dumb. Almost as bad as our 8th inning base running debacle last night.

I didn't love our approach at the plate today. We just could not get anything going and had zero clutch hits. We definitely had our chances.

The difference in the game was that we made two mistakes in the seventh (a leadoff walk and then a dumb throw to first by our normally outstanding SS) that were both cashed in.

Today was a very tough loss to stomach and it sucks becasuse winning this series would have put us right in the mix for a top 8 seed. The silver lining is that there wasn't a ton separating UF and UK this weekend. We could easily have won all three games. Hope the team carries that fact with them to Hoover and beyond.

Easily won all three? Dude, uk was destroyed in game 1.

I think Mingione is not the long term answer. IMO UK needs to make a serious offer to the UofL coach. Sounds like he’s ready to move on from there.

I don't disagree with you, but after this year we have to give him more time. Time to prove that he's righted the ship.

He still does things that drive me insane, but there won't be a change after the season we just had. We're in the tourney and that's considered success here. I think if we host a regional, that's probably adds yet another year on to his contract.

The silver lining is that he seems to excel at using the portal (as opposed to Mcdonnell who hates the portal and is struggling b/c of it). So, maybe that will help us to maintain some success.

Mingione has no choice but to use the portal. His high school recruiting has been absolutely horrible.
