Garrison & Terrance Jones

Wow surprise of all the bashing on BG. I believe his upside is great and has shown tremendous potential. I surely would hate to lose him. I believe he will be a key piece for our NCAA run this year.

Note: BG vs TJ not even close two completely different skill set's.

I agree with everything you said. However, stating he doesn’t compare well to TJ is not bashing, it is analyzing. I think he will be an absolute weapon next year if he returns. That said, it is a fair assessment to note he has motor issues, struggles guarding the post and is very raw.

His natural ability and upside is high, but I'm not sure his basketball IQ is. I'm optimistic he could make a big leap next year though. Hope my skepticism about his basketball IQ and ability to make good reads is wrong.

You right. I was comparing the development.
It’s a bad comparison with development. Jones was first team all SEC as a freshman.

Hell, in the exact same amount of games, he scored more points, grabbed more rebounds, shot better from 3, shot better from the line and had more assists his freshman year than his sophomore year.

Jones was a very good player both years for the Cats.

I can answer that. A lot of the bball knowledge on this board is not great. More than half of the board will tell you they wouldn’t want Cooper Flagg on their team because he isn’t any good. Half of the board doesn’t watch anyone but Kentucky. Half the board will cry all year about Pope playing certain players, only to find that those players end up balling out. Prime example being Amari Williams. A recent example being Collin Chandler. There are plenty of knowledgeable posters here and there are also some hilariously bad ones in terms of knowing the game.
You definitely don’t have to pass a test to post here , lol .

I think you're missing the point completely. I am not comparing their numbers at all. I am comparing that Terrance Jones came back his second year and made a massive impact, which was way better than his first year. Sure, Garrison is not contributing like Jones. All I was saying is that, perhaps Garrison can improve like Terrance did. If you can't understand that, God help you.

I know exactly what you’re trying to say and it’s just a bad take imo. Jones was 1st team all SEC his freshman year (2nd team his soph year). He didn’t make the big improvement into his second year like you’re saying. He was a stud his freshman year and a stud his sophomore year and he had a pretty similar impact both years and did not have some drastic improvement.

I think this is a swing and miss. I think you’ve noticed BG can be chippy and is long and you drew a bad comparison.

In reality I think Jones and Lamb are the two most under appreciated talents Cal had during his tenure here. They were instrumental in why he will be welcomed back years from now.
Agreed. Stalwarts of the championship team.

Garrisons play leads me to think he WANTS to be a 4, maybe even a stretch 4. His skill set hasn't quite caught up to that. Maybe it will.
If I was Pope, I’d be showing him WCS 2015 film all off-season. Willie was another speedy center who was tall but not a tank but used his motor and athleticism to become the ultimate defensive player who could shut down one through five. Add a few pounds to Garrison and keep improving that three point shot.

If he takes defense personal and becomes an all-in anchor on that end while improving that shot, I see no reason that Garrison cannot become a first team All-American type of talent someday. The only thing keeping him from it is between his own ears. I say without hesitation he has an extremely high-ceiling skill set.

Say what you will but he did make a drastic improvement. Perhaps not stat wise but mentally more tough and honed in on his craft. He was a different player from freshman to sophmore. Not sure what games you watched.

While I understand what you see, Garrison’s ceiling at UK is about where Jones’ floor was. Plus their games aren’t real similar. TJ was an absolute stud here. We owe the nba lockout threat for pushing him and Lamb back to UK in 2012. We don’t win that title without them.
