*****Game Thread UK vs UGA******

I wouldn't want any of these players on my team. Before the season started, someone stated that this team doesn't have a go to guy to get baskets during crunch time. I didn't agree, but I can clearly see the poster was right. We don't have one big that we can go to when 3s aren't falling.
I’m not gonna over react. Coming off a big win and felt like everything went against us. I still think the offense would flow better with Carr at the 5 and Brea at the 4. Let the 2 bigs and Robinson earn their way back into playing time.

Barttorvik had us as a fraction of a point favorite. Losing isn't a surprise, but losing by double digits is a bit disappointing.

The things we do well, shooting and taking care of the ball just weren't well executed. When our opponent is better than us in both our strengths, it's going to be a long night. Our defense is not good enough to bail out the O when things go wrong there.

It's really hard to make heads or tails of anything here.

We get down so much in games. Even in games we end up winning lol.

We are halfway through the year and I have no clue about this team.

72 free throws by our opponents in the first two games.

And I would argue that the other team was the most physical team in both games.
Normally I would agree, but we're slow to the scene on defense once opponents get moving and setting screens and we're even slower getting in position to block out for defensive rebounds.

When do we get Kerr back? We need a spark plug out there who can handle the ball as well.

Well that sucked but we knew that it is going to happen time to time. We got punked by 8 guys, 5 players and 3 officials. Pope is going to have to get a technical foul or two to make sure the officials know that he isn’t going to take a f…king by them. IMO Next game we are going to get them. Go Cats

Overreact???? Have you forgot about OSU and Clemson? Have you forgot some of our struggles with a couple of the cupcakes? These players don't have the heart to fight consistently.

There seems to be a great deal exaggeration built into this team. They will stretch "playing bad" or "playing well" an extra few possessions more than the average team.

It's the Pete Carroll method. Foul every trip up and down the court. They won't call them ALL.

Difference tonight is that they didn't call ANYTHING, not even when one of their punks walks into our huddle AND initiates contact with 2 players in the huddle, called EVERY single ticky tack on the Cats, and ignored EVERYTHING the dogs did under the basket.

Carr did just a little of what they were doing and they called it. 14 pulled Oweh down from behind by the face and pushed Carr down by the throat and face.

I'd be bringing some serious fkn heat down on these pieces of sht next time I played them. Time to run these mfers OVER and landing on them when taking it to the hoop. Grind em to dust next time.

A curse on these officials and the head of officiating for rigging this game from start to finish. No way they call it this biased unless the conference oked it

i tend to think it's more we really aren't that talented this bunch of players.

There's flashes with some players. There's signs they do some things very well but most of them have major flaws.

Which shouldn't really be all that surprising to anyone.

We’re about where i hoped we’d be at this point. Just not the games we’d win and lose. We need some guys to step up. And Pope has some tough decisions to make in who deserves minutes. This team absolutely has heart. They just have to fill it up from deep to be upper tier and some nights that’s not gonna happen.

And just wait until you play the likes of UT, Auburn, Alabama, MSU, Texas A&M. Punch this group early and they will wilt. Can't rebound because again, don't like contact. I sure hope Pope has some players coming in next season that are not so soft.

This isn't about the lack of talent; this is about the lack of effort. This team clearly didn't play as hard tonight as it did against Florida. If this team gave effort and lost, I wouldn't feel so bad about it. This team gave very little effort and certainly didn't go down fighting.

Well... the refs finally called the hip check on Cyril... Georgia did that all night. It was called once

EXACTLY!! 2 OF EVERY 3 trips down the court!

Hip checks, arm bars, lowered shouldersn elbows, holding arms, pulling our guys down as they're falling, traveling, slapping hands, heads, and arms on the way to the rim, and FLOPPING. Extra sht after the basket or whistle, too.

Refs ignored 99% of it.

We knew coming in that none were superstars and none are on any draft boards for a reason. Our bigs are slow and neither can jump over a phone book. Williams is a walking head case along with Robinson, these players need to have the ball go through the hoop or they get tight and press.

ok. lol.

The SEC is going to be a roller coaster ride.

We protect home court and steal a game or two on the road and that’s about all you can ask for.

And that’s us being the 4th or 5th best team in the league.

Some of these teams that have been in the top 25 much of the season are going to be sub .500 in the league.

That’s what happens when a league has 12+ NCAA tourney level teams.

NCAA tourney level major conference teams do not lose many games at home.

That's like the fifth time this game we've gotten blocked on a dunk.
Something that I've noticed is that we shy away from contact on a lot of our dunk attempts. We sort of float up there with a "I ain't afraid of no ghosts" mentality. Dunk the damn thing. Make someone hold you down like what they did to Carr. Get hacked, and live at the free throw line.

This team has no heart. If this team had heart, it would not have been unwilling to fight. Carr was scared out of his shorts; Robinson passed up numerous shots around the basket; Williams was only willing to get physical with smaller players. Heartless!! Moving forward I will watch them when they are motivated to play and stop watching them when they play like they did tonight. To make it clear, my issue with them isn't about losing. It is about the lack of effort and caring.

We just aren't a top 10 team. Can't lose to 3 mediocre teams and think we're a really good team. Oh BTW, Clemson lost to Louisville tonight too.
Losing to OSU and UGA by double digits is what's painful. We'd feel much different about the team if we lost all of our games by a similar margin as the Clemson game. Our propensity for getting blown out is alarming and a huge issue.

Some didn't show up....Robinson, Carr, and Williams. As much as I like OO, he has a tendency to go missing.

I guess maybe the silver lining is if we weren't so awful from 3 and had just hit a decent amount maybe we lose by a more respectful margin.

In the three losses, 26% 18% and 24%

That's bout all I got lol

I’m usually one to point out that a perfectly even number of fouls and free throws isn’t necessarily the mark of a fairly officiated game, but free throws being 33-9 in favor of the team who’s been over the top physical all night is one of the more absurd stat lines I’ve seen in some time. We may still be somewhat soft, but it’s hard to match their physicality when the standards of allowable contact are so different for each team.
I agree. I don't usually buy into the "it's the refs!" theory, but this is ridiculous! They take the heart out of the players and the game. How do you fight that? You get aggressive & they call a foul. You sweat on them, you get a foul. Referees are notoriously crooked & help make the point spread. Could our kids have played harder, yes, lesson learned. And now at the end of the game, refs call fouls, Make it look even. The officiating in college sports needs to be investigated period!

Our bigs need to pull up their collective big-boy panties & come out playing tough! Get the attitude & fight! If they are gonna call a ticky tacky foul, then give them REAL foul! And come out in the first half to PLAY! This "wait till the 2nd half" stuff isn't going to work at road games!

Prob a top 20-25ish team.

Which given Pope's first year might not be bad.
That's about what we were last season.

Being worse than BYU this year defensively to this degree is the biggest puzzle. Here are our starters and the adj. defensive ranking of the teams they came from:

60
59
11
135
36

Average ranking - 60

Our current adjusted defensive ranking - 88

We'd be cracking the top 15 in Kenpom with the 60th ranked defense. It's like outside of Butler, all of our transfers were below average defenders on their respective teams.
