******Game Thread Colgate vs UK*******

There's SEC records being discussed here and we need to have a discussion.

If this team goes 11-7 in SEC play.......this season......that is NOT BAD.

I'm just throwing that out there.

Like we could go 11-7 and still get a 2 seed or 3 seed. The wins vs Duke and Gonzaga. Any other non conference big win. 11 SEC wins. That's a stellar resume.

LOL, late game at Clemson, late game all the way to the west coast. Down 2 players all of the sudden and some are jumping off of a cliff. Pathetic.
You're far too eager to try to divide the fan base into categories.

No one is jumping off of anything.

This was a pathetic performance and it's a real-time game thread. What type of fan is going to get out the pom poms and lead the C-A-T-S chant on a night like this?

Get some perspective.

I called 11-7 before the season started.

What did you call?

If you called less than 12-6, were you "quitting" on the team before the season began?
They very well could, I don’t remember I think I said around that, I believe we can beat that now. 11-7 wouldn’t be bad in this kinda conference but I’d like to stay around 13-5ish but I’m not gonna think we are doomed after a bad game. Still won by double digits and 9-1 baby!

It’s a trap. Don’t weight performance vs Colgate more than the games against Duke and Gonzaga. We will be fine, definitely plenty to work on. Go Cats!

Our EM change after this game = -1.27.

So we did lose more in this one than we gained in the Zags one.

That being said just dropped down one spot.

I would be tickled to death if this team goes 11-7 in the SEC. That probably gets us a 4 seed, with a shot at a 3

I’ll take the ugly win over a loss any day. That’s about the only positive from tonight though. That was a lackluster effort in pretty much every category. Hopefully we can get things ironed out before Saturday.

Yes, but this feels like a loss to me. This feels like Kentucky played JUST well enough to beat a sub 300 team. If we played WKU tonight, with this effort? We're losing. If this is how we play against a 14/15-seed in the opening round? We're going home.

I'm usually optimistic but I have to go with a pessimistic take after this game. There are games UK loses where I think "we played well enough" but then there's a game we win tonight that I just can't be happy with, other than that we eeked out the win. I think we're in for some lumps in SEC play, and if we don't find the right talent, there's only so much Pope can do.

The good news is that not having your PG really affects the team. But it also tells me just how important Butler really is.

10-8 or 11-7 in the SEC.

Get your mind used to it now so you won't be surprised later.
I don't agree with your forecast. Kentucky looked bad tonight simply because they didn't won't to play hard and for most of the game, they didn't play hard. This had nothing to do with skills or talent. It was all about effort or the lack of.

We gained 0.90 in EM after the Zags win.

Curious to see if we lose all that back from this one.

I doubt it. But it'll take a hit.
Yep. And NCAA takes this kind of stuff into consideration. It won't cost a seed line, but if there's a tie for a seed or something, they can factor this in. "Man, Kentucky didn't beat Colgate as much as they should've."

I think it's reasonable.

Not because I don't think this team isn't good or capable of having a better SEC record but rather because the SEC is just so talented this season compared to previous ones.

You are going to see a bunch of SEC teams hovering around .500 IMO. Some of those teams being very good ones.

UK is not going to be a 14/15 seed, lol.

Did AD say a lot about Kentucky towards the end of the Calipari era? I feel this is the most I've heard from him about UK in years. He's made some interesting comments about Cal lately.

In fairness, this game highlighted effort issues that are starting to define the team, and that's a problem for the rest of the season. We can't rely on a strong second half in the SEC gauntlet.

I'd argue we have two of the five best wins in Men's CBB so far this season, but this team needs to do some soul searching.

I think this is a good thing tho.

Like I think the computers definitely take this into account.

For the humans that are still doing the seeding, it's still very much a matter of "did you win". Just too many games from every team to focus on a specific game in the middle of December against Colgate

Also, and for as much as I liked Cal.. what do we think his record would be with THIS team? 4-6? Does he even get 4 wins by now?

I don't want to understate, in my opinion, just how much this is proving Pope's value. His coaching (and yes, the player execution as well) is dragging this team across the finish line several times now. Not trying to dog the team, but this roster, especially without Butler, feels like a Georgia tech roster or Arizona st.
