From 1993-2009 Duke Signed 32 McDonald's AA; Coach K Won 1 Title

Plus Cal's not afraid to play away from home in the nonconference.

Also, you can believe whatever you want about refs and their effect on the outcomes of games. But if you believe Cal gets the same calls Krysewvski does: you're dumb.

You almost have to be an elite program to win a title. You at least have to be in a power conference- ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12, SEC, or Big East (that's a debateable one now, though).

In the last 25 seasons, every title has been won by a team from a power conference or in the case of UofL and UConn, a team formerly part of a major conference (I don't think the AAC is a major conference).

So if you are not part of a power conference, your chances are slim to none.

So Cal has only been at a program where he has "realistically" had a shot at the title for six seasons.

One title every six season is actually a better ratio than K since he arrived at Duke (around 1 title every seven seasons).

Add to his resume the fact that he has taken two different non-power conference teams to the Final Four and Cal is not that shabby for a head coach.

Good lord, people. The man's won five national championships, two Olympic gold medals, two world championships, been to like 12 or 13 final fours, and is the single winningest coach in the sport's entire history. Starting threads trying to run down the coaching history of a man with that resume just seems like the height of pettiness and futility

I'm of the same mindset. I actually find this quite interesting and a very nice response to all the people worrying so much about Duke. However I don't want this to be like the Louisville board where all of their posts are about Kentucky.
This should be on the UofLsucksville board cause they are the biggest culprits when it comes to this discussion.

THIS.......

trying to show ANY current coach is in coach k's level is laughable.

What is laughable is the lack of reading comprehension shown regarding my original post. Have
someone read it to you and then, more imporantly, have them explain it to you.

Anybody who read the OP and thought is was putting Coach K down needs to GTFO because you are making a complete fool of yourself. The OP was about the idiots who have been putting Cal down. Let me spell it out for those of you with reading comprehension issues. K is considered the King of active coaches and even the greatest of all time by many people. For the idiots complaining that Cal's four Final 4's, one Runner-up and one National Championship in six years is not good enough, the OP is pointing out that even the guy considered the best coach has had worse periods during his tenure. He didn't say Cal was better than K and he didn't say K was a bad coach. The whole damn argument is predicated on the fact that K is the best. smh

Actually, it is not a fact. Coach K has won 3 times in the last 15 years.....

Cal was successful at the highest level of basketball. It should count as something in cals favor. K will never know what it's like to win on that stage. The Olympics and world championships are not it. Cal could do the same thing if he ever gets the platform. Coach K doesn't do the noble thing and let other men represent America in those games. Even Dean Smith said he didn't feel right taking it over and relinquished it. . He also does get excessive favoritism as well. I believe all this is relevant. I give K the nod, but it has just as much to do with his situation than anything. Take the calls away, leave Duke for the NBA, come back to college, coach multiple programs, and he doesn't have what he has. Cal shouldn't be just shot out of the sky in the conversation because he chose to move around and taste different things. If cal wins 3 before he rolls there's no conversation, his impact was greater. That's what I'm really waiting to see.

I didn't take it as that. He's the best coach in basketball. I know that. The OP knew that too. As he said, he's one of the best 2, 3 coaches ever. The point I think he was trying to make was that even the best coach on the planet went 17 years with only ONE title. So when people gripe about Cal winning one is six years, try to remember that. If he keeps us getting to the final four 4/6 years, how many titles would he end up with if he stuck around that long?

Let's cut the man a little slack.

OP wasn't running down Coach K. That's not even close to a charitable interpretation.

The point is that K is the best there is, and yet there are results on his track record that parts of our fanbase would absolutely crucify him for. Not that complicated.
