Free Throw shooting

A bad trend that I hope gets much better. Last four games we have shot 15/22 68%, 23/35 66%, 10/16 63%, and 12/20 60%.
It's March. I was hoping UK's FT woes in March were tied to Cal.

It's a good thing UK's lead was as big as it was before Illinois really starting pushing their comeback. I was worried about "winning it at the line" in that one ...

Very few of our guys put enough arch on their shots to drop down into the basket. Otega shoots line drives as does Amari. Practice them all week for crying out loud and get them over the front rim.

That's not going to get much better if Amari Williams and Brandon Garrison keep shooting our free throws. Stats with those two removed:

Illinois: 11/16 68.75%
Troy: 6/8 75%
Alabama: 14/20 70%
Oklahoma: 13/17 76.4%

Andrew Carr has been pretty abysmal as well, but he rarely even gets to the line. If refs continue to refuse to call ANY fouls when our guys cut to the basket and only send Amari to the line, then yeah, we will quickly be screwed. Oweh has got to stop foul hunting though, or it's on him. Enough of the twisting, turning, falling on his back praying for the ref to bail him out nonsense. It hasn't worked for him all season and I'm not sure why he keeps trying it. He would be better off shooting jumpshots and falling down anytime anyone gets close to him.

I've noticed that. They hit the front rim a lot. Get the ball over the front rim with a little arc and it has a much better chance of going in.

In the post-season (SECT/NCAAT)...I was thinking Amari was the one really struggling. While that's definitely true about Amari, the team has been Jekyll/Hyde

Opponent
OU: Amari 1/4, Rest of the Team: 14/18 (78%)
Bama: Amari 8/13, Others 15/22 (68%) ... so, nobody shot GREAT that game
Troy: Amari 1/5, Others 9/11 (82%)
ILL: Amari 0/1, Others 12/19 (63%)

So, if the trend continues, the team should shoot lights out for the TN game... 😉
Followed by an abysmal performance in the EE against UH or Purdue 😥

You and I were thinking along the same lines...

I mentioned this in another thread, but as the arc on Amari's FTs goes up, so does his percentage. He shoots about the flattest FT shots ever.

It seems like every time Amari shoots a free throw it's after a TV timeout, after mass substitutions, a monitor review, etc. Anything to ice him. Then he inevitably barely draws iron.

Nothing drives me crazy like missing the front end of a 1-and-1 no matter who it is.
