Typical SEC official, and he actually called that at least twice on UK shooters. But that one was really bad.
Both were bad. He followed the ball and assumed there was a violation.
The SEC refs are terrible and many are obviously biased in a negative way toward Kentucky. Maybe it's time to assign them all to certain conferences on a seasonal basis and rotate them each year. That way you only see Doug Shows or Olandis Poole about every 5-6 years.

There is no such thing as SEC refs and refs are not assigned to a conference. Refs are independent contractors who ref any game they can get hired for. Doug Shows will ref an SEC game Tuesday, a Big 10 game Wednesday, an ACC game Thursday, and a Big East game Friday.

Pope just said on his radio show that neither were lane violations but probably looked close in real time.

I know if it was my job I would be fearful of getting fired if I failed that badly, repeatedly, at an easy task.
As for the refs? Absolutely nothing. They can do anything they want, always, and as long as the kiss the right ass and keep Vegas happy they are stars.
Best to just accept their bosses are in Vegas and they are superstars doing exactly as told.

The center, is moving from his position at “extended free throw line” to inside , to “help “ the lead referee with rebounding for an eventual miss even before the ball hits the rim. By doing that he is taking himself from his primary responsibility of counting to ten and watching for line violation from shooter and opposite 3 players .
A lot of referees try to anticipate the play so to speak and try position themselves in a best angle for next play.
Is true that Amari quick reaction is a produce of him moving his center of gravity forward as soon as the ball leaves his hand and he realized the shot is short. I am assuming that the center official saw that too and decided to move for the next play.
Regardless,when you try to cut corners , there is a chance you get burned….. no excuse for this mistake especially since in a college game the trail is usually around division line or close by the 28 and will not help on that so is C sole responsibility to decide if the shooter produced a violation or not.

The worst thing is the poor call actually REWARDED Texas for failing to box out.
If UT just does the most fundamental thing taught in elementary school basketball, the official doesn't miss that call. Instead, Texas is rewarded for poor basketball... which is what I see ALL THE TIME in college basketball. If the officials would just call the games according to the rules (excessive physical crap holding cutters, moving screens, carrying the ball, etc)
I thought in real time the Williams one was a joke and yep sure was. It sure does suck nothing we can do about missed calls. Need Challenges like the NBA.
Yes he made both of those calls during a pivotal stretch . Also, sandwiched in between those he called a touch foul on Oweh, let them mug Otega a couple of plays later and then had another play where the ref on top had to call a foul that he stood on the baseline and watched one of our guys get hammered and didn't call. When Shows looks like the best ref on the floor you suck.
Moving screens and grabbing defenders that are trying to fight through screens is happening too. I have noticed Arkansas is really bad for doing both things and the refs just don't call it.

It’s ok guys, Pitino said refs makes mistakes and that’s ok, and then half of this board lauded him for it.
This. Showing something in slow motion can confirm/reject it was the right call; BUT games in game speed are much more difficult to call.
Bad calls will happen. Just as long as they aren't always (or almost always) one-sided. That was what we experienced with Higgins in the UK-UNC E8 game (& prior games w/ him).
I agree, but slow motion/freeze frame shouldn't needed at the foul line when players are all, you know, standing still until the ball is released. As shown above, the official wasn't watching the shooter Amari, or it's an easy no call. Instead, he wasn't doing his job, and he made an assumption/bad call.
One sided or not on any other calls throughout the game, that incompetence is inexcusable
I explained above why I think the official missed the call. Nothing intentional, he just tried to cut some corners and made a bad call.
I am still very happy that we don’t have an excessive usage of video assist referee in college basketball. In other professional sports because of video reviews the sport lost its spontaneity and even the video assistance doesn’t make the game 100 error free.
So we need to accept that referee errors are part of the game and move on.

I've never understood why the rebounders can enter the lane when the ball leaves the shooters hands but the shooter can't enter the lane until it hits the rim.
Yet I’m constantly called a conspiracy theorist that is insane to believe the officials have an agenda. Ok. That thread was last week and this happens. I haven’t seen a shooter violation called in 2-3 years. We get 2 in one game, both bad calls. Remind me??? Did we lose?? Yep.
Yet no one believes there is an agenda against UK.

That same ref had 5-6 questionable calls down the stretch of the 2nd half including both of those lane violations and a foul where he was on the baseline and the ref at the top had to call a foul because he swallowed his whistle.
With referees making assumption calls, anticipation calls, reaction calls and automatic calls we can get some very poorly called games.
The point of this is Kimble did not watch shooter and assumed Twice. Wrong. Twice.
Yeah, this kind of stuff really gets me irritated. I get it...with the speed of the game sometimes referees are going to miss things. But refs should never make calls that they just don't see. You cannot assume or imagine violations that just aren't there.
