I just remember the BCG hire after Tubby left.
They weren't lined up to take the job.
they weren't given much of a chance

they thought they had Donovan, their first choice, locked down, he left Mitch at the alter and Mitch bolted to College Station to get the latest fad coach - bypassing Memphis along the way

He sleeps with the fishes.

Nope. Although he looked like a home run not long ago, it's now a no.

That's why I keep coming back to Pearl. Who else can we get that can absolutely guarantee a good degree of success? The man had two other sec schools #1 AND wins a title but for the absolute best gift call to uva a few years ago. That's all with waaaaaay less talent than cal enjoyed.

Yep. I agree. I think Pearl is the best feasible option now.

No different in getting Pearl for a few years to see how it works out just as others are saying “get an up and comer… at worst we can just let them go after 2-3 years”

With Pearl you know you’ll at MINIMUM still be able to recruit well and be good-very good.

There’s no real home run hires (again- feasible which don’t include Jay Wright, Donovan, Hurley or Stevens) out there right now.

And the landscape has changed. Yes we’re still a top tier blue blood but you don’t need to be UNC, KU, UK, Duke to have major success or he “cool/hip/ relevant” with NIL/ being able to pay players now.

I’m 40 years old and college basketball (and society in general) is vastly different than just 15 years ago and it’s spilled over into college basketball too. It’s not the same college basketball many of us love and remember from the 90’s and 2000’s.

I know that story, but is there anything to substantiate it?

March 22 Tubby Resigns, April 5 Gillispie was hired. Given they had to get organized for a coaching search, that was about 1 week - and they had to give Donovan time to say no during that period. I personally don't believe there was much of a coaching search at all

We may never know the real truth.

Some on here keep bring up the name Pearl , Mitch will not hire him because of the NCAA baggage he has.

I am pretty sure there was a head-hunting group that Mitch relied on for the BCG hire.

We all know it is unlikely but how can we not at least offer Dan Hurley. Isn't he clearly the best college coach in the country right now? I don't think any of the guys who are out of college coaching are coming back.

I have no idea but I don't see why there would be. Donovan was choice #1. Calipari wasn't a consideration. Gillispie was the hottest ticket beating Louisville in Rupp.

That doesn't sound like a group decision
