Fr TE Dixon leaving already

I’ve been very good friends with his family for years, one of his uncles is one of my best friends. I talked to him tonight, he just shook his head, he’s heard very little in the way of an explanation and the little he’s heard makes no sense. My personal opinion is he got on campus, saw the size and speed of the competition, the level of skill, and the workload required, and was overwhelmed. I get the feeling he was intimidated to the point that he doubted himself and his ability to compete. He’s a great kid, never been away from home, never dreamed he would have a chance to play at that level, and his idea of how things would be, was swept away by a tsunami called REALITY!!! He’s always had his support group in arms reach, and that short 80 miles, seemed worlds away, the mountain was bigger than the moment. JMHO

Sorry to hear he's left the team. Glad to hear it's not a serious situation. I hope he has a great future, even if it's outside of UK Football (as long as it's outside of UL football).

We disagree here. I don't believe UK football recruiting has anything at all to do with keeping UL honest. Why would it? UL is in a different conference and they aren't even competitive with us. I can't promise you that UL will never, ever bet us again. Flukes can happen in competitive sports, particularly in a home and home series. But I can assure you that UL will not be a significant factor in Mark Stoops' strategic recruiting decisions. I also don't believe Jeff Co is currently a priority UK recruiting area. The quality of hs football and the number of legitimate SEC prospects have slipped badly inside Jeff Co in the last decade and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. That's Brohm's problem, not ours. We recruit all over the eastern US.

I don't think we will see Brohm taking that many Jeff Co players either. So far, the only Kentuckian Brohm has taken is Boykins from Ratcliff. He hasn't even offered any Jeff Co prospects.

Not even the OL from Male?

It’s easy to see a kid who is a really good athlete with a body type to play WR along with baseball and basketball in high school, getting to college and realizing that gaining 40 lbs of muscle and moving to TE, but in the meantime being a practice dummy for grown-assed men SEC athletes, is more than he can handle.
I know someone who had the same experience only at a lower level. He moved on and became a success in life. We all need to wish the same for Jacob.

Your handle is clarified. Thanks for that

Scholarship athletes are not "practice dummies" at UK. I understand someone being intimidated and not being prepared to handle it, but hyperbole like that just makes people look and sound fragile and ignorant.

It's disappointing seeing most of our tall receivers not being used to their best advantage and bailing. I don't see why Dixon would have to be moved to TE. 6'4" 225 LBS is plenty big enough for the SEC @WR. It's a little discouraging to think he'd HAVE to be a TE simply because of his height

That's why roles get discussed during recruitment. If he isn't happy, better to leave now than later. Better for everyone.

My point is that if there is a genuine SEC level talented player in the City of Louisville, be it at St. X, Trinity, Male, or any other school, we need not concede them to UofL. We've had some pretty darn good players from Louisville come through here. Corey Peters, JJ Weaver, Keenan Burton, Izayah Cummings to name a few off the top of my head. So we need to not abandon recruiting the city. We do need to own the state though. We've finally made inroads back into freaking Lexington, which should have never been the issue it was, and I think we are picking up steam in the Northern KY area too. I think Cincy's ho hum hire of Satterfield has put some tarnish on their program that we need to jump on.

Sorry dude. Young scholarship players are sometime sometimes place on practice squad for reps. Nothing fragile about it.

Not before practice starts, and there's a big difference between that and a "practice dummy"... for those who've played the game anyway

Can a young guy who’s never been away from home, yes 80 miles might as well be 800 if you’re homesick, just decide that all of this is overwhelming? He went home to re-assess. Maybe he calls CMS in two weeks to return. Maybe CMS is helping find the right fit. I feel for the guy. In my summer after my senior year of high school I partied, went out had some great times but when August rolled around, all my friends took off and went to colleges all over the Country. It’s a scary time. Took me taking a year before I got serious, found a school and walked on. Look up the stats on kids who go away to college. See how many wind up back home. It’s their first failure in their eyes. To come down on them is unfair. We all gotta figure out our way. It involves stepping out of our comfort zones and overcoming fear. I wish him well. He will mature and will do what he’s meant to do in his own time.
