Max showed everyone on Sunday, that he is STILL the best in the world, and deserves to be listed amongst the greatest of all-time. Dude is from another planet.

I haven’t been heavy into F1 since 2000-07 when it was basically all Schumacher. I will still catch a race here n there. Only three drivers ever have won at least 5 championships. Fangio, Schu, and Hamilton. Max is right there though, has four going on five.

I’m not usually a big car racing movie guy (Ford vs Ferrari was great) but the new F1 movie coming out in June with Pitt and Bardem looks pretty solid.

FIA issued new technical directives regarding tires before Imola and McLaren takes a step back. But they have denied any wrongdoing. Seems like their pace was obviously affected though. Supposedly FIA will be cracking down further on panels and gaps at the Spanish GP.

It didn’t look to me that McClaren took a step back. Looked more like Max’s Red Bull was running well at a track that suited them.

The McLarens’ advantage over the Red Bulls is most pronounced in slow speed corners. Those are also the types of corners that are hardest on rear tire wear as you’re accelerating during corner exit. This also plays into McClaren’s strength so far this season on tire wear.

Imola is mostly higher speed corners, where McClaren lacks those advantages over Red Bull. We saw this at Saudi Arabia, another circuit with lots of high speed corners that suits Red Bull. If not for a poor launch at the start in Jeddah, Max likely wins the Saudi Grand Prix.

Same thing played out at Imola where the race was really won on the first corner. Only this time, it was Max making a brilliant move to get around Oscar. Had Oscar maintained the lead, there’s a good chance he wins the race. Imola is a tough track for overtaking.

Then there’s also the issue of Pirelli going another step softer on the tires this year to push more teams to have to do two stops. That complicates the strategy side, and Max was fortunate in that his stops lined up perfectly with safety cars/VSCs.

Just know watching the F! P2 recording. Piastri missed a turn and boink...into the wall. I wonder what the price tag is for a new front wing set on an F1 car.

You can get a full size replica of a front wing for $27K from F1 Authentics.

In all seriousness though, I seem to recall one of the team principals mentioning a front wing was maybe $125K to $150K. I thought it came up when they first instituted the cost cap, but I might not be remembering correctly.

This will always be the first thing that comes to mind for me whenever someone mentions Monaco. Senna owned that track.

Agree, What makes him the clear "best driver in the world" is that he can win when he doesn't "have his best stuff. Like in golf and other individual sports, the true great ones can somehow win when they have their B or C game. Anybody can win when they have their A game. Tiger said it best.

No kidding.
If you approach watching Monaco like any other F1 race, you’re bound to be disappointed. The cars have been too big for the track for years, but there’s also too much history there for F1 to remove it from the calendar.

I’m not sure if you watch rally races, but I tend to watch Monaco like I’m watching a rally race. It’s less about overtakes and more about marveling at the drivers’ car control through a very difficult track.

Honestly, I personally could watch nothing but shots of the cars going through the complex of corners from Tabac through Rascasse and be completely entertained. It’s one of three places where I enjoy simply watching the cars navigate the corners (other two places are Maggots-Becketts-Chapel at Silverstone and Eau Rouge-Raidillon at Spa).

If that’s not your thing, then I can totally get that and completely understand why you would find Monaco boring. But personally, I love it. Though I do admit that I always find qualifying to be the highlight of the weekend.

Well the mandatory 2 pit stops went over well like a fart in church. Doubt we see that again next year. The most entertaining thing from the Monaco GP was the chatter between Hamilton and his crew chief. He is really pissed off with the whole deal.
