Former Tulane wing Kam Williams commits to Kentucky

Williams said that others were waiting to take that spot and he did not want to lose it. So did we line up 4 three guys in the order we wanted them or told them all whoever commits first? Does this mean that Wilkerson is out or are they wanting him at the two?

Goodness guys.

Koby Brea was the best shooter in all of college basketball last year. He literally led the country, in a conference much tougher than the American and on an NCAA tournament team.

This kid is not Koby Brea guys. Rein it in people.
Per your logic (which seems to be made only on PPG), Brea only averaged 1 point more per game at Dayton the year before he transferred to Kentucky. Brea is starting and maybe the most important piece along with Butler, heading into the UT
game tonight. Plus he is only a freshman and appears to be a much better defender than Brea. Upgrade in coaching and Williams could really shine. Your ppg argument makes zero sense

Who said PPG is the only thing that matters?

Competition matters. Efficiency matters. Experience level matters. Brea was SIGNIFICANTLY better in all of those areas.

Listen, I stand by it 1,000%. If this kid is starting for us next year, we are in trouble.

If he is our 7th or 8th man and a great plug & play piece, we're in great shape.

This kid wouldn't start for the likes of Bama, Florida, Duke, Auburn, etc. this year

To me it’s either this guy or Chandler starting at SF. I expect Oweh back and don’t think Lewis and Johnson will be buried any more than second string. So basically I don’t see how we add anything else to those three positions besides one starting point guard.

Kam was/is easily my favorite wing in the portal.

6'8 with insane wing span/length. Dude is going to be a special defender. He's crazy athletic. He has the hops/explosive ability we're lacking.

He shoots 40% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game.

He's a freshman. He's got 3 years of eligibility left.

Mark Pope is about to set this portal and the college basketball world ON FIRE.

As a Mavs fan, he has me thinking PJ Washington. PJ is one of the best defenders in the NBA. Very few average over 1 steal and 1 block per game.

Think of how much Otega, Koby etc. have improved and developed under Pope and his staff. Now apply that to Williams coming in as a sophomore. Huge upside. People questioning how he fits, a backup or starter, need to realize they were probably thinking the same thing about OO last April. No way to know this early in the process how good he can be. Great piece to start the roster building for next year.

Add a PG (Dent) next week and we may be done with our backcourt for next season.

PG Dent (or ?)/Lewis/Perry
SG Oweh/Johnson
SF Chandler/Williams/Noah

Then the focus goes to getting some size.

Need a couple of PFs and another C, most likely.

After that, just try to get the best available?

Because he averaged 9PPG on a really bad Tulane team.

Not hard to put 2 and 2 together on that one. NBA drafts on potential, not off the production they can offer right now.

Unless he takes a MASSIVE leap this summer, we better hope he's a bench piece.
Freshman Non primary ball handlers do not score huge in college. Just look at AD. He averaged 12.7 points a game for UK, MKG was like 9.9 and both were drafted first round. No matter the competition, college ball is about the guards. They have the ball most of all. Not saying this guy is Jamal Mashburn, but also not saying he is Richard Masterblaster Madison. He has size, he is not a twig, has strength and can shoot the dang ball. Not afraid to drive not afraid to play defense. He will be a big addition to next years team.

He talked a lot about making it to the pro's. Said he thought about going this year. Does this mean he expect to start and be a one and done?
I bet he expects to have an opportunity to earn a starting position and enough confidence to think he can parlay that into being drafted eventually. I'm personally good with that! Let's hope he comes in and plays so well him being a potential high draft pick is a problem Pope has to deal with at the end of next season after we hang a banner.

Really just goes to show our staff isn't letting being in the Tournament slow them down from recruiting one Iota. Question is, if we take 5-6 guys from the portal to add to what we already have for next years roster, who are those guys that will make us a legit top 5 pre-season team?

More details on Kam.

6'8, 190 FR for Tulane
In 32.2mpg, he averaged:
9.3pt, 4.5reb, 1.3ast
But here is where the goods are:
48.5% FG
41.2% 3pt, making 1.9/gm
1.4 stl + 1.1 blk = 2.5 Stocks/gm

So, he was very efficient, just wasn't asked to do as much on the offensive end.
6'8" wing I LIKEY A LOT!!!!!!
