I liked Verderber as a player, he gave all out effort and wasn’t a problem here. But, he wasn’t the type of player to receive a lot of $100 handshakes, going by his stats from what I remember. So I really question what he supposedly said.
I’ll have my Verberder medium rare please.Sounds like a dish the swedish chef would cook.
Gotta love that hypocrisy, kinda like millionaires who say we need to go green and buy a Tesla if you can’t afford gas. The ones who hate the US but make all their money off the free market. He was a traitor. He told the Herald Leader during their investigation of the $100 handshakes that it was embarrassing. He said the money giving was so ridiculous. He said he was happy to finally leave UK because he was sickened by all the greed. Of course, he also says he took money.
He might be more persona non grata for UK athletics than any former player.
It was and it shouldn’t have been a problem IMO, some kids back then couldn’t even afford shoes.Well, in his defense, he wasn’t the only one. There were others who talked.
Our boosters were indeed out of control back during that era, in part because they were Cliff Hagan’s buddies and he thus made no effort to rein them in. It was just a matter of time before players started spilling the beans.
Funny the way $100 handshakes was considered a huge scandalous news back then. In today’s world of NIL and shoe company money, that seems like meaningless chump change.
Exactly right. She's a joke of a writer and to put out such illegitimate claims/speculation shows she's a joke of a human being as well. That book was a poorly written piece of trash that took every rumor and printed it as fact. She wanted to put out something salacious to try and sell books but it had a lot of stuff just wrong from dates, games, names, etc.. Every assumption was something malicious or negative. I would not base anything Chuck Verderber said or didn't on that book. No legitimate publisher would touch it so she had paid a vanity service so she could just try to sell copies herself.
