For UNC, it's a Great Day to be a Tar Heel!

When looking at their team on paper this is just awful from Hubert.

RJ Davis was ranked as the second best player in ALL of CBB by ESPN preseason.

Seth Trimble- top 30-40 recruit junior
Jalen Washington- top 75 recruit junior
Cadeau- top 15 prospect sophomore
Ian Jackson- top 10-12 freshman
Drake Powell- top 10-12 freshman
Lubin- the decent big from Vandy last year
Tyson- a highly regarded Belmont transfer

Caleb Wilson wanted to see his finalists in conference play. Double digit loss to Louisville and the most noteworthy game for them in this decision month for Wilson, is a home game against SMU…

Great to hear that UNC went down. I have watched UNC 3-4 times and they are not that good. No bigs that are good. Hope they continue to get beat. Great way to start the New Year.
Just your friendly reminder that if they hadn't came back from a 21 point 2nd half deficit to Dayton they would be 7-7. 🤣

The only downside here, is that I really don't even see UNC being a threat to Duke. Wouldn't be shocked if Duke gets through the ACC wit just one loss, maybe two. I alsonwouldnt be shocked if they rolled through unscathed. No one else seems lile a realistic threat.

Duke being a #1 seed would be a great thing for UK's resume.

And they'd go into the tournament awfully cold IMO. They'd probably get a better test from their 2nd round opponent (who very well could be like Ole Miss as a 9 seed), then anyone else in the ACC.

Which makes me think.. there will be 0% chance that Duke would draw an SEC team for its potential 2nd round game. Whether it's their 8/9 seed of their 7/10 seed, etc. The only hope would be that the SEC has SO many teams in, that a 1-seed Tennessee would not be allowed to play another SEC team so early, so therefore Duke might be stuck.

But that's all so far out, so who knows.

How long does UNC stay with Hubert? Looking more and more likely that title game was a fluke.

I said he would get 5 seasons after the title game year. My thoughts were due to him being a former player and also a minority hire. Its tougher to fire that combo of coach too soon.

I am thinking I am going to be wrong. I'd say he would get next year at most now if they end up n the NIT this season.

I've been thinking for a few weeks that Duke could run the ACC table. I mean the SEC went something like 34-4 vs the ACC (including Duke). So at least half of the SEC would win the ACC if they traded conferences with Duke this year! This year the ACC looks more like the A-10, the MAC, or Mountain West. But still, between the Duke name, the ACC history, the love affair the media has with Cooper Flagg (who by the way is still only shooting 43.8%, 27.1% 3pt, 50% 2pt, and team leading 2.2 TO/gm (50% more than 2nd highest)), Duke will get at worst a 2-seed (but probably a 1-seed unless they somehow lose >2 ACC games).

They played a tough ooc slate, but lost most of the big ones. I thought they’d look better in league play, but a double digit loss to ul isn’t a good start.

Not a lot of big opportunities in the ACC, outside of duke. They very well could be a bubble type team going into March.

All title game performances from a bad seed like that are flukes. Ours was in 2014 too. That's just how the tournament goes. Hubert will go the way of Kevin Ollie, a fluke tournament run surrounded by mediocrity.

Very happy that UL beat UNCheat.
Yep. But truthfully, it's a good day when anybody beats UNCheat. Even Duke. Can't believe I just posted that.

Well, I will make one small exception. Indiana. The only good outcome of an IU-UNC game is that whoever wins, they win it on a last second blatantly bad call by the officials.

That (IU-UNC) is how I feel about Duke-UNC. Granted I spent 28 years working and living <45min away from both.

What are you taking about??? Davis is a HOF coach. Wish we could get him right now. I suuuurrre hope they don’t give him a lifetime contract so we can’t. 😂 😂 😂

They need to win a few more games. Just enough to keep him around.
I hope they sneak in as an 8 seed and keep him around so they can experience what we encountered under Tubby.

What did you endure? Look at Tubbys average seeding for his first 8 seasons. We ran him off for 8 seeds.

You may be thinking about Cal with bad seeding and missing tournaments all together.

UNC will orchestrate something where Davis “steps down” and he says how much the program means to him, blah, blah.

I’m half joking, but everything UNC does is fake and phony.
UNC is greatful that Hubert represents everything that is right about the Carolina way, he upheld the traditions and classroom excellence our student athletes strive for!

Tubby was good enough to not get fired but after ‘04 never a threat to win it all. I’m assuming that’s what he means.

But UNC brass will move on from him fast. I’m guessing if he doesn’t get it turned around this year he’ll be gone. They’re not gonna wait. They’re smart enough to know they dont need to endure a near decade of never posing a real threat to win a title to move on from a coach that’s not good enough. Which is basically what we did under Tubby and again under Cal.

UK was very much a threat in 2005; SEC Champs; a 2 seed that lost in the Elite 8 in double OT

Nah, I was pretty sure the late-career Tubby comparison is right where I want Davis to be. Nine year Final Four drought. Just good enough to keep his job.

2nd round exits in three of his last four years.

I'm not one to defend Calipari, but the end of Tubby's run here was atrocious. Both men deserved to go at the end. If Davis is Cal-level bad (last four years), Davis will be gone a bit sooner than I'd hope. That's why I want him at Tubby level bad.

The point was that Smith was just good enough to retain. That's where I want Davis to be. 7 or 8 more years as UNC's coach sounds about right.

Fear not, Hubert will “step down” for some reason we will all respect if that team doesn’t make the tourney this season. He will be a great man for it, and the school will support him; its family after all.
