For those who follow the women's game. JuJu Watkins carried off court.

Threads on UK women's basketball are bad enough but now you are starting them about women's basketball in general? I truly hope this girl is not hurt badly but, once and for all, women's basketball sucks.
You would feel differently if you had a sister or child or grandchild playing. I have a granddaughter playing D-1 mid major. She was a great highschool player, so not everyone shares your feelings.

Sure. Different if you have someone close to you that plays. That makes you care, for sure. Doesn't make the rest of us care.

Stop trying to make women's ball a thing. It just isn't.

Guess what you can do if you don't care? Just not open the thread and respond. She's one of the biggest women's basketball players out there right now and just suffered a possibly career altering injury. Let the people who want to discuss it discuss it, and if you're not interested just leave it alone.

The fact that every single time there's a women's basketball thread here all you guys rush in to tell us all how much you don't care is pretty pathetic.

Yeah, people always say that. Just don't look at it. My idea...if UK women's ball has such a great and dedicated following, let's create a forum for those posts. I'm sure engagement will be off the charts.
You should find something better to do with your time than whine about women's basketball. This is a basketball forum regardless of it being related to the University of Kentucky or not. Your posts are disgusting.

It begs the question; Why do you care? The subject was obvious. Instead of going out of your way to offend people, just stay off the topic. Problem solved.

Honest answer...because women's bball discussions don't belong in this forum. No different than a pee wee football thread. Out of place. Yeah, I guess it is 'basketball' but not on par with our vaunted UK men's ball team.

I am all for you having a women's basketball forum where you can discuss it to your heart's content. But that won't happen because there is not a real interest and it can't be supported. Much like the WNBA has to be propped up.

I hope your grand daughter is very successful in what she does. I hope this girl that is the subject of the thread is ok. But women's bball is not on par with our men's ball team. So let's quit pretending like women's bball discussions belong here.

Whether or not they belong here is irrelevant. You are not the adjudicator. Again, just stay off the thread. You seem a bit narcissistic in thinking your opinion takes precedence. It does not.

As for my granddaughter, you are getting confused. I'm old enough to have grandkids in college but I have no children.

I can't watch women's basketball either, I just find it boring. However, I'm old enough now to stop insisting that others don't discuss it here.

I'll end with this. Juju, by all accounts, is a wonderful human being. At the very least she should be respected and appreciated for that alone. This world needs as many good people as it can get.

I’m sure this thread bumped into obscurity some other really great posts like “Is the SEC overrated?” and “ChatGPT did a funny Calipari impression” that we’re all worse off for having missed…

Some advice: You are ALWAYS free to not open threads you aren’t interested in!

This is a basketball post on a basketball forum. If it had its own forum I probably wouldn’t go to it often, but then I would miss the occasional related topic I’m interested in, and my forum experience would be worse as a result.

And I’m not sure what you mean by not “on par with” the UK men’s team. As in not the same quality of basketball? If that’s your criteria then I can link you to some NBA forums where they discuss basketball which, frankly, the UK men’s team just isn’t on par with.

Slight digression here. I love UK basketball, could not care less about UK football. I often see posters who rail against fans who don't support ALL UK sports teams. Not seeing any of that in this thread. Where are you people?

Action, the title of this forum is officially "Rupp Rafters - Basketball Forum". Doesn't say anything about being restricted to men's basketball, so your contention that women's basketball discussions doesn't belong here is false.

Stop engaging with him, he's just doing this to rile you guys up and seeking this type of negative interaction to fill some void in his life. It let's him feel superior to something, even if just for a moment. In fact, easy add to the ignore list. Anyone who intentionally derails topics they aren't interested in is not worth the time.

Sucks for Juju but man USC is stacked and they completely dismantled that team anyway.

Edit: I'm laughing my ass off over here, when I went to ignore I noticed he's been a member since 2002 with under 150 posts, yet topics he's not interested in are the ones that drive him to post. Troll.

You're absolutely right. Just took your advice and clicked "Ignore" on AJ.

USC would have been UK's next opponent. Hated to see the way our women's team went out with Georgia Amoore missing the short baseline jumper, after she had already drilled a couple of long jumpers to keep UK in it. I won't watch any of the rest of the tournament, but I did enjoy watching UK this season. We should have a really good team next year too.

I don't really follow the women's game. Saw it on X and thought some on here would want to know. Seeing someone cry like a ***** about it does make me want to post more about the women's game. It's funny seeing someone cry about the women's game being talked about while getting their panties in a bunch.
It is weird.

I just scroll on by threads that don’t interest me. Seems easy enough.

Damn they were saying on ESPN radio that she was pretty banged up leading into this game. Not sure if that was related to the knee or not, but if she was already favoring something, that's an easy path to injuring something else.

You don't get to decide whether or not women's basketball topics belong in this forum or not. Just because You also don't get to apply how you feel about something to someone else and how they should feel about it.

You're right; we don't have a women's basketball forum; therefore, women's basketball topics ABSOLUTELY belong HERE. If you don't like it, don't click on it.

Hijacking a thread is against board rules and if I conclude you (or anybody else) hijacks intensionally, it results in a ban.

Contribute productively to the topic or don't click/respond.

The guy on ESPN radio, Clinton something, not only led of his show like Muhammad Ali had passed or that JFK had been assassinated, but he's been going on and on like JuJu has horrifically been killed and this in the most devastating news of the decade.

Had a friend that played a little college ball and he said his team was told that the worst knee injuries came with much less pain - ?

Like I guess a torn ligament or maybe tendon wouldn't typically hurt as badly as a wrenching sprain or sublex injury

Is that generally true?

Athletes walk off from ACL tears all the time, much more likely if it’s a partial tear of course. But you know whats even crazier? Regular people who work out will tear their ACL and because they don’t have a medical team on hands at all times like an athletic program does, they will walk on it for days and weeks before seeing a doctor. So yeah, hyperextending your knee (which may have been what happened to Watkins if she’s lucky, since it looked like her knee locked on the plant) would very likely hurt significantly worse.

I tore my ACL/MCL within about 2 seconds of each other and the pops hurt for like hell 10 to 15 seconds. Then I just couldn't stabilize my knee. I was on a lot of painkillers and adrenaline so I can't say every tear is like mine. I had picked off a pass and hyperextend which caused the ACL pop and should've went down but it was the playoffs and two lineman hit me and bent my knee inwards and fell on me with my knee bent inwards which popped it again. I played 10 more plays but it wasn't happening.

As the night wore on it got sore but I went to sleep fine. Woke up in God awful pain. I mean yelling the second I woke up cause if my knee moved at all it was excruciating. My knee had swollen and locked. I tried to walk but fell and literally had to crawl to a phone. Crawled to a medicine cabinet and used a golf club to knock my dad's oxycodone down and took 3 or 4 and waited for hours for my parents to get off the lake to take me to the hospital.

I'll tell you I tore my quad landing wrong in spring practice and that made me puke it was hurting so bad. That and tearing ligaments in my ankle hurt worse immediately more than tearing the ligaments in my knee. I just didn't procrastinate or lie to my coaches about those. I knew I was gonna miss basketball season the second I got to the sidelines so I tried to basically lie to myself that nothing was torn, those weren't pops, it didn't hurt that bad ect.

holy crap - the thought of continuing to play on a torn ligament is AWFUL

But thank you both for the firsthand type responses on that --

I remember a story in the NFL where Hines Ward had knee pain / issues and a MRI showed he HAD NO MCL - none

Now its just getting crazy like a ghost story or something
