For those of you that don’t want drew

You seen what Cow said in his interview?
He thinks Kentucky don't the money for NIL.
He thinks he can win bigger in Arkansas.
Hire Scott Drew, a proven recruiter who has defeated Cal on and off the court and get ahead of this asshole and the pigs..
Its a race between him and us to build a team.
This is serious business folks.
Tomorrow Cal starts building
..
We must start NOW.
Yeah lack of on court talent was Cal's issue.

Another thing no one's talking about is usually a program is going after the hit name, coming off recent success. Especially a program like Kentucky. So excuse some of us not thrilled with a guy who hasn't made it out of the first weekend in years and also has had double digit losses. I mean it feels like a Mitch buddy, whitebread safe bet.

If all the top guys get real offers and say no fine. I'm going to support and give a chance to whoever the coach is. I just don't think he's the guy. If I'm wrong I will be thrilled. I just want to win.

Exactly what I've said all along. But with the vast majority of supposed sources saying no other target at all was given anything but lip service and Drew was the very first call, (and with Billy Donovan himself saying he hasn't been contacted and that is the one thing I feel is reliable) and with more and more posters like OP coming out of the woodwork and telling me I can stick it if I don't like that, it's getting easier and easier to just wish Drew would pull a Rick Barnes.
Yeah I really don’t want Scott Drew, I think he’s a bad hire but I would be willing to give a chance as long as they at least tried to get Donovan first

I think someone posted on here somewhere that Drew has missed or lost the first weekend in the tourney all but 5 of his 22 years. That alone will go over great here.
The first half of his career it doesn't bother me. He was at Valpo one year and then an absolutely terrible Baylor program that he built into something from nothing. Prior to 2015 he didn't underperform in the tournament - he had a few good teams that did as well or better than expected in March but a lot of years it just wasn't a team you expected to have March success.

But he did build them into a pretty strong program, got some talented rosters, won a good number of games in the regular season, and didn't do much in March except for 1 year. It's the 3 straight years losing first weekend as a 1, 3, 3 seed that bothers me. Did the same thing in 2015, lost first weekend as a 3 seed. 206 lost first round as a 5 seed. 2017 as a 3 seed lost in sweet 16 to 7 seed South Carolina. He's shown he can build a pretty strong team even at a program like Baylor. He hasn't shown that he can consistently produce in March even once he's built teams that earn good seeds. We've seen with Cal that just because you can win once doesn't mean you aren't going to flame out repeatedly after that.

I won't be upset with getting him, he just wouldn't be at the top of my list. Maybe here he gets even stronger rosters and a good set of assistants and he's able to do great things. But I have reservations. It'll be a wait and see situation, not a "hell yes we're set!"

What about his last three years? Terrible. That’s why Cal was pushed out.

Some will be angry if he's the hire. The vast majority will support him and give him a chance though.

I'm just hoping he isn't our first and only choice and that we aggressively pursue Hurley and Donovan first.

If they tell us no, the Drew is right there in the second tier, IMO.
I would prefer Oats, but can’t complain about Drew as a 3rd choice. Kind of a boring hire, but he would probably win a lot.

15 double digit loss seasons at Baylor. Averages nearly 12 a year.
Only finished 1st in the conference 2 times (1 tied) in 21 years.
Never won the Big 12 tournament. Only made it to the finals 3 times.
Barely a .65% winning percentage and a .52% Big 12 win percentage.
Has only been further than the Sweet 16 once in the last 11 attempts.
His only redeeming coaching quality is the 1 championship after Covid.

If we hire Drew I'd bet it will end up like the Tubby years, but with no title. Elite 8's will be the best we can hope for and be lucky to make it out of the first weekend. This is not the hire to bring us back. Hoping the boosters put a stop to it like A&M did in football.
