the Big Ten is worse. Illinois just lost at home to a crappy Indiana team. When this Indiana team is 4-1 in conference games, you know the conference sucks.

The Big Ten is Wisconsin and Maryland and that is about it. The SEC is UK and that is 100% it. The two are very similar. The issue is, one has a pre-established rep to help them get teams in the tourney while the other does not. Neither conference is very good.

I think the SEC is definitely better than the Big Ten. The weakness in the SEC is some bad coaches.

Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, and Georgia can be good teams. They're talented but have poor coaches with the possible exception of Georgia's coach.

If they have bad coaches, that means they ARE bad teams.

Sagarin has us number one,and then Arkansas at 32.

Big ten has five teams rates higher than Arkansas.

No conference is as bad as the rest of the sec. We have earned and continue to defend our reputation.

Ratings don't always tell the story. The Big Ten is bad.
And the SEC is horrible. Look at OOC record.

We need a couple more weeks at least for things to start to sort out. With 14 and 15 team conferences the schedule's get a bit wacky. Like us playing both Alabama and Missouri twice before we play a bunch of other teams even once including a number we'll also play twice. Besides the Big 10 I'm not all that sold on the Big 12. Same for the PAC. Spent a lot of time in S Utah and am sort of pseudo fan, but #8? Come on. Should be a fun 6 weeks getting this stuff worked out as the days start to get longer and spring looms on the horizon.

The ACC is definitely the best basketball conference this year. After that, they are all about the same....one or two good teams at the top and a bunch of mediocre teams below. I do think that, overall, the SEC has its share of decent teams that can beat you if you take a night off. The worst of the SEC is definitely better than the worst of the Big 10.

I think the underlying problem for the SEC and basketball is always (or at least for the foreseeable future) going to be "interest." Fans can't play the game for their team, but I think fan support and community interest in the team does impact the quality of the product. It's simple psychology. If nobody really cares about what happens with a team, then the players have a lot less incentive and drive to succeed. I think non-UK basketball teams in the SEC get that message (subtly or not so subtly) from both the fans and administration.

When it comes to the SEC outside of Kentucky, I imagine a frequent conversation on campus goes something like this: "Did the basketball team play last night? Oh, you're not sure either? Well, they probably lost anyway. God, I wish spring football would hurry up and get here - I'm dying."

And in the Athletic Administration building, the conversation is probably something like: "Looks like the basketball and volleyball teams are going to finish above .500 this year. That's pretty good, and they also didn't have any ugly issues in the media. Another successful year. Anyway. . . God, I wish spring football would hurry up and get here - I'm dying."

If you want to play a lot of teams in the 30-60 range, meaning teams that are worthy of 7-12 seeds in the tourney, or are on the bubble, then the SEC isn't terrible. There's something to be said for playing a lot of those games. But it would be nice if there was anyone who might actually be favored to play past the first weekend of the tourney. And this year, there's just not.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if UK wins the league by 7 or 8 games, meaning no other team in the league finishing better than 11-7 or possibly even 10-8. Odds are someone will step up a little, but I still doubt that means anything beyond 12-6. It's just a completely unpredictable, muddled mess right now.

Two other sec athletic administration conversions.

"Ugh. Our basketball coach sucks.I'd fire him, but then we'd have to pay for his buyout. And we need that money for tackling dummies."
"Good news. Tulsa called and they want to hire him"
"That's great. get that NAIA coach across the street on the horn. He'll work for peanuts."

"Ugh. Our basketball coach is good.I'd keep him, but then he might want a raise. And we need that money for tackling dummies."
"Good news. Cal called and they want to hire him"
"That's great. get that coach who hasn't made an ncaa tourney in four years on the horn. He'll work for peanuts."

Wrong answer . The SEC by every way of measuring (RPI ,BPI , Saragin , Ken POm ect . is the 3rd best conference. Just for one example

lets look at RPI . the SEC has 3 top 30 teams . and 4 more in the top 50 ( UF and UT just outside that )

for example the Pac 10 has 3 in the top 30 none after that in the top 50 .

the Big 10 has 2 in the top 30 and 3 more in the top 50 .

SO the SEC is better then at least the Pac 10 , Big 10 and we won't even bring up the rest . So lets look at the 2 best conferences and see how they compare to the SEC

the Big 12 has 6 in the top 30 and one more in the top 50.

The ACC who is the best conference in cbb has 4 top 30 teams 4 more in the top 50 . SO they one more then us and also have 3 in the top 10 which no one else does .

this is just one measurement by which the the leagues rank like this 1.ACC 2. Big 12 3.SEC 4. Big 10 and 5 . Pac 12 . I know the big east is better and they might be better then Pac 12 i just havent looked at them hard enough.

It is not so much that the teams are bad, they are all about the same and beat each other up during the regular season(this year) to the point that only one or two teams(other than UK)will make the NCAAT.Everybody is likely to have 5 or 6 conference losses and they didn't set the world on fire in the non-conference schedule.

LSU and Ark keep shooting themselves in the foot(we tried but missed)UF will have 12 losses at best and UGA and Ole Miss probably both can't get in.We aren't going to lose in the SECT so there goes one more bid out the door.

There are several teams that are over rated,I think the teams out west will skew the seedings by the time we get to March.
