Fisher predicting Gabriel to UK

OMG were going to have a 10 man class?

We are going to have a lot of guys back next season, so we might have a smaller class some think.

We will likely return Lee (though he might leave), Mulder, Matthews, Wynyard (will be here in December), Humphries, Hawkins, Floreal, and Willis.

I think we will sign 4 or 5:

G Fox
G Monk
F Gabriel
F Killeya-Jones

Plus another big, if Lee leaves.

I'd say that we'll lose at least 5 guys after this season...

Skal
Murray
Briscoe
Poythress
And then one more will surprise and declare for the draft or we could lose a player to transfer...

Yeah, that can never work.

Signed,

Muggsy Bogues
Spud Webb
Nate Robinson

Webb could dunk easily, Nate Robinson is was a freak athlete that outweighs Ulis by probably 40 pounds. Bouges was in the game in a diffent era,now were in the midst of the most athletic and biggest/tallets PG run the game has seen.

How does Ulis game and athleticism match up to those once in a decade short guys you mentioned. Two of those guys were in the 80s, and now PGs are much taller and stronger in the NBA. They all had ridiculous hops and could score at will. Bogues averaged almost 10apg in college. Robinson left college in his 3rd year after averaging 17ppg and could dunk on people, and he also had about 30 pounds on Ullis.

edit: anarch didnt see your post until after i made mine. Like ESP!

My other point is why leave if he is not a lock 1st rounder? Im not saying he cant make a team but am i missing something about a 2 year degree program he is wrapping up?

You might not realize that 2nd rounders often sign million dollar deals as well.

And what's all this talk about tall point guards? There are plenty of small guys playing point in the NBA right now. Not exactly Ulis small, but small.

Because he probably never will be. If his goal is the NBA and his stock has reached his peak, go make some money and develop in the NBA. Besides the crop of point guards is gonna be light this year and heavy next.

That's an argument that can be made. How many players have you seen actually do this versus staying in school? Not ones who thought they were first round and ended up second round or undrafted, but ones who knew they would be second round at best and made the jump with D1 eligibility remaining?

Also, I'm curious for all of those marking this as Ulis's last year so that they can make room for some highly ranked kid, wouldn't you rather have a Junior Ulis versus a freshman Fox or Monk, etc.?

Kentucky had 3 alone this past year. Harrison twins and Dakari Johnson.

And I never said I wanted Ulis to leave to make room for anyone else. I'd be tickled pink to have him back. I just think it's likely he leaves.

Of course we'd love to have him back for his junior year. That's not the argument. UK fans have been conditioned since Cal has been here to realize that many times kids will leave either before they're ready or at their sldraft stock peak because that is how Cal sells the program. He's not pushing kids out and our fans definitely aren't either. What we've come to understand is that we can't depend on anyone to be back 100%. If a kid's stock is at its peak then it's smart for him to leave and make the best of his situation. We've had a ton of kids who weren't ready right away to play in the NBA leave because they had a good draft projection. Ulis won't get any taller, and he's an incredibly cerebral and smart player. Add to the fact that next year's PG draft class will be weaker than the following year, it would make sense for him to leave. But no, we'd love it if he stayed even if that meant no Fox.

We've had 3 guys leave early in the past six years who were never really expected to be better than second round picks. Jodie Meeks, Deandre Liggins, Doron Lamb.

So yes, it does happen fairly often. It isn't always about someone's stock slipping. Sometimes it's just about maxing out potential and being ready to go.

Where is ullis going? He is 5'8 150lb , going to be guarding 6'3+ pg's in the NBA. You serious bruh

I think he'll leave regardless of whether or not he's going to get drafted and hope to sign on as a free agent. Going to be really hard for a 5'8 guy to get drafted. But it appears that it's going to be a weak draft for point guards. So the time may be now.

All of us would want a Jr Ulis back.. Cal sold Briscoe on coming and knowing it would be Ulis's team.. Same could be done with Fox.. But I'd bet the farm Ulis goes this year.. And Monk and Ulis do not affect each other..Different positions..

The long term benefit of Ulis going after this season is that Cal put a 5'9 kid in the league after 2 seasons. That is an impressive recruiting tool.

I'm guessing fisher and wilt had a private dinner conversation. Some things can't be repeated.

Fisher said it's basically a two team race between us and Maryland and UK is making a serious push.
