First Practice Report of the Season from CoachCal.com

It's a good read. I'm still concerned about poythress as he still doesn't seem to be at 100 percent but I think by November he will be on the court. Also I am glad to see that the overall athleticism is strong. This should be a great year.

Thanks for the link, very good read. I am so ready for BB season to start. It is going to be another fun year. Can't wait to see Alex playing again.

No offense, but totally a homer report/perspective. Any good team's first practice report would be as glowing.

As a Kansas homer though, the stuff on Ulis has me concerned. Dude appears to be a gamer. With Murray and Briscoe, you folks are a tough beat.

Mason, Graham, Svi, and Selden are also a load.

With Cal preaching "drive, drive, drive" I worry about keeping you in front of us.

But we have good bigs, if Diallo qualifies, and plenty of them.

Shut up dude. First of all, this is not the kind of thread that requires input from outsiders.

Second of all, he went out of his way to state at *multiple* different points that our guys were rusty or behind where past Cal teams have been at the same period. Of course given that we have one of the best rosters in the country, he's gonna be able to pull out one or two positives for each player. But even still, he put plenty of qualifiers in there.

And even despite that fact, you still feel the need to come in here and attack it for homerism?

Compared to some of the homerific stuff you can usually see from any fanbase with a pulse, this was downright lukewarm. I hear that Shiver dude gives seminars on objectivity and recruiting predictions.

Get back in your lane.

You should have quit after "no offense" because everything you wrote after that is boorish, pointless, useless information we don't care about, and betrays a weak knowledge of basketball. No offense.

Kansas fan, you have nothing to worry about, the game will be at Kansas in the phog so there will be enough homerism to keep Kansas able to win no matter how good UK is.

I hope what the coach Cal writer is saying about Skal is true because it sounds like we have Davis 2.0 on our hands.

I wonder what weakness Mulder has. Is it passing or ball handling ? If he's a good passer and ball handler then I dont have a clue why there wasnt a dog fight amongst all the best teams for recruiting him even as a transfer.

Once again Matthews is sounding like Liggins 2.0 .. or in other words a poor mans MKG.

With our guards , Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray being good shooters at least and great passers and ball handlers.... it gives us so many options down low. Drive and pass to Humphries or Skal for high % face up jump shots... or lob to Poy, Skal or Lee for Anthony Davis like lob dunks. ...or their is no help defender and its a layup.

Cant wait for BBM..... last month I realized the Bahamas spoiled me too much lol.

Hard to say exactly who reached out to Mulder.

He was expected to go to Wichita St., and they aren't exactly a slouch these days.

He also wouldn't be the first player to think a UK offer was too good to pass up.

With the report of Mulder being long, might we see him as a small ball power forward? Imagine having him on a wing with the three guards in the lineup? Add either center (both of which apparently decent enough from 10 - 15 feet), and you've got five shooters.

Love the options this team can present.

Marcus Lee gonna have a 67% 3PT percentage on the season (minimum of 150 threes shot).
Kentucky going to da Olympics. Kentucky win! Kentucky win! Woo!

In all seriousness though, if that's a dimension that he can add to his game consistently, he's going to be one helluva PF, even in the NBA. We know he can defend any position well, we know he's an outstanding interior defender, and we know he can put it on the floor, drive it, and make moves in the post. Nevermind the fact that he's a ridiculous rebounder. Hearing so much about his improvement has me excited.

No offense but pretty much every single first practice has been this positive. This is nothing new. There is nothing homer about it.

I know two things; Bluto's large and Mulder is long....

No, I'd say we don't know most of those things. If he could do those things he would have gotten more playing time up to this point and he'd be the favorite to start this year over Poythress, who can't do half the things you mentioned either. At this point, he's a non-factor on offense whose defense isn't worth playing him big minutes. Hopefully he improves, but we've yet to see it.
