And we’ll continue to tank with bad hires. On our path to Indiana
we can agree to disagree on what is and what is not a bad hire. However, I would like to know who is considered a good hire because I see no consensus on this board, just pure opinion and everyone has a list of people who says they suck lol so apparently no one is a good hire. Our fans need to realize that its April, getting someone of Drew's caliber at this point? Is a home run. They also need to realize, the name Kentucky doesn't magically make coaches drop their current jobs and come running. We have an arrogant fan base who appreciates nothing and feels entitled to the best, but that is a totally different argument. I have no idea if Drew will be successful or if he is even a candidate, but I do know we need a coach and fast to avoid a tank season regardless of who we have and to get a recent National Champion coach, this late in the game, we could do a lot worse.

Just so I’m straight here. If we hire a coach that won a natty title, would have been a favorite the year the tourney was cancelled, and had a hell of a team after his title that was crushed by late injuries, your’e saying he has no chance at success in March at a school that will dedicate a lot more resources (and has an actual history to celebrate) to basketball?

Some of yall just like to bitch and if we hired 1996 Phil Jackson you’d be wanting to fire him as soon as the buzzer sounded on his first loss as UK coach.

This board is a dumpster fire right now.

Man it’s just unreal. Scott Drew is a top 2-4 coach in college basketball at BAYLOR which translates to maybe the best at UK. The ignorance around here is actually stunning me. I’ve always been the type to take up for a lot of our fans and even this board, but this is making me think there are some real dopes who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Let’s look at the facts.

Drew’s record the last 4 years is not only better than Calipari’s, it’s on par with Bill Self. He’s won as big as possible at a doormat program, not UK, not Kansas. He’s bringing in a top class, and JQ has a great shot at staying on now. A direct shot to signal to Calipari and the SEC nothing changes.

He will immediately recruit Reed to stay, and he’s the perfect coach for Perry. No more playing favorites with long jumpers. He’s skilled in the X’s and O’s, and will put the program first.

Other than that I do think Had Bill Self gone to the NBA for example, he might have been the first call to Kansas. I have no doubts.

To me he’s waaaay better than Oats.

People that don’t like him just don’t think he’s entertaining enough. “Vanilla” code word for do his job while not wearing a wife beater.

I will give most a chance. The only one I will not would be Rick P. Everyone else has my support.

Danny Hurley is/was my #1 Billy the Kid my #2. If those do not work out then Drew was in my 2nd tier actually a little above Tier 2. I would say he was behind Billy by a bit.

If it is Drew then lets get him here to get his team and get them ready for 2024 /25. Hopefully in a year or three we will be back in the Maui and other events. Hopefully we will have some better home and home games. Things like that.

That's something I don't think people are considering with this change. That alone makes it a good change for me, and I don't attend as many basketball games annually as I do football games. Rivalries and tough opponents are part of what makes in person attendance great.

Not that other coaches wouldn't embrace those events and rivalries as much as Cal cringed at them after being exposed at some of them.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but anyone that says Mitch is not a good AD, simply doesn't understand college sports. Not even getting into if you like or dislike Cal, I am thinking big picture here and the truth is, he is one of the most respected GMs in college sports, he has raised the level of athletics for all areas since he has been here, which is his job. UK is bigger than Basketball (contrary to what a lot of our fans think) or any one sport. I'm not saying I have always agreed with decisions he has made, but he is an excellent AD. The world of college athletics is changing, and yes coaches and ADs must adapt, but so should fans. I like Cal, but the last 5 years are his fault, not Mitch's and Cal should have been sent packing long before now, it was time. He has even said so himself. There is an excellent article in the athletic (if you subscribe) and Cal states he should have taken the UCLA job, that was the time to make the change but he didn't. This will be best for all parties. UK was fine before Cal, we will be fine after Cal and Mitch for that matter. The sky is not falling

The problem with this is we don’t care about anything but MBB.
I’m happy he’s a good AD for rifle and pickleball. But at the end of the day the only moves that matter are on the men’s basketball court. 99% of his job is to be the face anyways. His underlings are handling the day to day

rifle and pickleball

heh, that made me laugh

my biggest complaint with Mitch is he is reactionary. He response to hiring Scott Drew is Scott Drew is the antithesis of Calipari, as Calipari was the antithesis of Gillespie . He swings the pendulum too far and is singularly focused in his decisions.

From all appearances he had this job promised to Scott Drew for more than a year now without any consideration to the coaching landscape

I'm curious what game Mitch was playing when he gave out the contract that was the very reason we were looking at having to pay Calipari 33 million to leave.

I think he was doing whatever he could to keep what he and many at the time thought was the goose that laid the golden eggs.

After 2015 I thought that goose was cooked at UK. Sometimes you just hang on too long. Cal had no fire after he blew that title. Just ripped it out of him that he second guessed everything and has been doing it ever since

That is the fanbase's issue not his and it isn't the right mindset. His job is to strengthen all the sports not just basketball, basketball isn't even the highest revenue sport. Regardless, this centers on people being upset Cal is gone- which is my point- Cal needed to be gone, he should have been gone already- if you want to add Mitch in for not firing Cal sooner due to the contract, fine, I can get behind that, but the bball team decline of late is ENTIRELY on Cal, not Mitch

He has tanked my favorite team. I hate this man with a passion

Biden say's 'Cmon man!. As someone who doesn't like MB's style and a lot of his decisions (or lack thereof), in his defense, he is in the middle of conducting a coaching search (or he better be). Don't ya think it's a little premature go into full hate mode right now?

After careful evaluation I believe we CANNOT get the coach we need under Mitch Barnhart.
Calipari has smeared him badly and made Mitch damaged goods to potential coaches.
FIRE MITCH NOW
