Time to watch

Someone stated a while back how he turns every game in to a “rock fight” and that is perfectly describing him now especially vs weaker teams. Thiero’s athleticism is what is saving him in these games but it will be interesting to see when league play starts and teams have just as much athleticism along with coaching and adjustments that will be made.

I sure don’t miss these rock fights at all, so glad he left.

What I thought would be an exciting game when Cal came back will be an easy win for the cats. I can’t see the game even being close and will be an embarrassment. But he can look on the bright side….. at least a lot of people came to watch his team play.

He's Mark Stoops of basketball. It's like if it isn't a struggle, the win wasn't worth it. Like, wth?

Cal without Robic or Welch is just.....meh at best.

Must be a church night.
Yep, Arkansas fans go to church on Friday nights, too, apparently. Or maybe some have church every night.

On a more serious note, I was watching that game and remembering that old offense we ran for so many years. Welch had Cal running a more open offense the last couple years, but we would usually default to Calipari's stall ball when he wanted to sit on a lead. Hold the ball to 10 seconds, then have someone try to make a play.

That offense worked pretty well between 2009 and 2015 when Cal had the most talented players in the nation. He could have them dribble around, run that dribble drive hand-off line, then have someone make a move and try to finish.

But looking at a more modern offense, you see the deficiencies. If you don't have a guy who can create offense off the dribble or multiple guys who can beat guys one on one and others who can make threes at a high clip, you're in trouble, because your scheme doesn't create shots. Your players have to do it.

Arkansas is going to struggle in the SEC this year. This UK team is clearly better. Arkansas is likely to struggle in these next several games, in fact. They're gonna likely lose to Illinois, which is not a great team but they're probably top 25. They're likely to lose to Miami in Coral Gable. They're probably gonna lose to Michigan in Madison Square Garden, too. And then they go to Knoxville to open the SEC and Tennessee is gonna beat them by 20+.

Pigs were outscored 37-43 in the second half by a horrific team.

Arkansas shots 7/24 from three in this game (29%).

Can't wait to see Cal lose again in the first weekend.

If they make the tournament. They’re already down to 40th in Kenpom which is bubble range. They’ve already lost to a Baylor team that got dominated again tonight. And they’ve been playing with fire against the weaker part of their schedule and it’s probably only a matter of time before they eat a resume crippling loss.

Granted, Jackson State was probably the equivalent of a decent high school team, but after watching that beautiful display of basketball the way it’s supposed to be played by UK, and then watching Arkansas and Cal’s “offense” struggle to put away mighty Little Rock, I couldn’t be happier with where our program is today.

That hog slop in Fayetteville would be our team if Cal didn’t bluff himself into a pig pen.

Arkansas is probably going to continue to let these teams back in games and win by uncomfortable margins until they have enough healthy players to play more than 6-7 guys in a game. Big Z nearly had to play the whole game.

Still would like to see what the team looks like with a complete roster when Brazile and Aidoo are back but if Cal doesn’t try to bring in more than 9 main players next year then it’s clear he doesn’t adapt anymore and I think that would lose him with Arkansas fans already.

Just get used to it. It’s to be expected that fans will be comparing and contrasting what we have now vs what we could have had if Cal was still here. It’s only natural, plus it’s fun. It’s not an “obsession”. It’s like watching a funny sitcom and discussing it.

When Calipari came to UK, and brought Wall & company, his recruiting process and even playing style was an instant successful recipe here.

I can't help but think this year and next year will be the high water mark of his time at Fayetteville. He certainly can still recruit, but his teams are not too difficult to gameplan for, and without a jolt of instant success at a very high level, will he have enough momentum there to build anything that will last, and cement his legacy there?

Or will he be seen as exposed, out of touch with the modern game, and behind the times (and 8 ball) with Hog fans that are expecting a return to glory for the program?

It's not looking like a good move for him. Nor what the Hogs were hoping for.

But for us, we can simply be gracious and grateful.

Pretty good tradeoff!

Good thing it was a Church night because hog fans needed prayers to beat a bad little rock team whose best player got injured.
