I love going way back in the alley to find these things so I went to find a Django Reinhardt version of Limehouse Blues. The riff for Limehouse Blues is one of the best. But in the Quintette's version the riff was carried by Grappelli's violin. So, I kept looking. And I found this video. Frank Vignola. A name I'd never heard. The older guy was Bucky Pizzarelli so I gave it a listen. The 2 musicians were dressed like accountants and the opening pace was almost amateurish. Like an instructional video. Then, just as I was getting ready to keep looking, they switched tempos and modes. And it wasn't Amateur Hour anymore.
