Fan negativity is putting a dent in recruiting

I really wouldn't be surprised if it was rival fans. I grew up in Kentucky and have met a ton of die hard fans (myself included). Out of everyone I've met (including myself) they would never sit there and tweet or message a player. Most UK fans view these guys as celebrities or heroes. I can see someone criticizing on a fan site but never them going that far.

Keep in mind, I know fans that would go to church depending on how far we went in March. I just don't think these are legit fans, even the die hards. That point needs to be made, on social media.

If you saw this post, you saw my other. If not, read it

The vanity search post? I looked back after you referred to it. Did not see it prior and I'll have to agree. If they are vanity searching I think they know both good and bad comments are lurking for them. Never thought of that angle of the Twitter thing. Just not my style to bad mouth kids online and I doubt yours as well but it's out there

Lol it’s funny how it’s always gotta be the ll BBN being the “bad” fan base on social media... I see other fan bases do it all day, and also it’s pretty easy to create multiple accounts on twitter.

"I'm not going to Kentucky and follow my NBA aspirations because there are some people that talked crap to me on twitter - I can't wait to get in the NBA because the fans are so much more supportive"

I say those twitter guys are doing UK a favor - they are filtering out the kids that can't cut it

If a player doesn't come here because he gets a bad tweet, then he probably doesn't need to come anyway.

It isn't even certain it's actual UK fans, but if it is:

It's a very small segment of a large fanbase. People tweet because they care. Since more care than normal, there will be more activity than normal which includes negative activity.

The ratio is at least 10-1 positive to negative. The army of fans help the player build a brand before they even step foot in the NBA.

If the player doesn't like fans caring, just go to Georgia etc

If you tweet at players, you're pathetic

Our fanbase CONSTANTLY overracts and is overwhelmingly unrealistic of Cal and our teams.

No one should be tweeting at our players with negativity.

The PJ free throw thing vs KSU was embarrassing and shameful.

The few ruin it for the many.

what? I posted a tweet I saw on twitter and it’s clearly a hot topic for discussion which is the whole point of a message board are you still sour over the CLOD jokes me Baller and Bassfan make?
do not flatter yourself. You, Baller, and Bassfan, are what you are, cheerleading, pom pom waving sunshine pumpers that think the sun rises and sets in Cal's ass. Neither of you can stand for any criticism to be be posted on this board. You three think everything is rosy and perfect, well, it's not. Some things need to be changed. We have flamed out early the last two years, because of lack of preparation, poor play, and terrible coaching, when the bracket opened up for us. We have a habit of losing to teams ranked below us.

You shared that tweet, because deep down, you firmly believe that negative posters here hurt recruiting. So, it is yet another lame attempt to silence everyone here that has issues with the current status of UK basketball.

I can agree with you on a lot of things, but trying to stop people from posting what they see as problems is where we part ways.

When someone mentions the embarrassing segment of the UK fan base, they are specifically referencing people like you.

Self-absorbed entitled fans that live and die with every bounce of the ball and have zero insight about the game.

Because no other fan base does this, pro or college.

And if players can’t understand it’s a minuscule number of the overall fan base, that’s on them.

You sound like someone who does it.

BBN is a big, radical fanbase. I do not know of a fanbase with a larger number of overzealous, "basketball is life", type fans than BBN. Therefore when adversity hits much of our fanbase is an emotional mess. Just visit this board after a loss.

Grow up...control emotions. Basketball is not life. And if it is for anyone, how sad indeed to narrow life down to putting a round piece of leather through a round piece of iron.

You are so far off course, you will never find your way back, no matter how many different names you have.

This is the "no true scotsman" fallacy.

It would be way too convenient if everyone past a certain level of nuttiness was a troll or a poser. It's a wonderful thought, but it's just not true.

We have some woefully miscalibrated fans on the internet who continually move goalposts, legitimately have a sour outlook even if we're performing as the best (worst case second best) program in the country, while expecting things that no coach since cheatin' Wooden has delivered, and when they don't get it, you see Veruca Salt types of breakdowns.

It's not rational and if you try to make sense of it, you'll go completely insane, but it does happen, unfortunately.

well they arent, feel better? and before you say yes realize its been 4 years since uk has been to a final four, 5 if we dont make it this year. a big reason for that is missing on key guys on the recruiting trail. lot of things go into that. including fan behavior. ignore it if you want, blame others if you want, but everyone in the business says its a problem.

you talk about building an NBA brand, but how many threads get started here alone where fans say NBA sucks, they never watch it, dont care about it, never follow it. yet uk fans are going to take credit for that too...lol

you call it caring which is a joke. caring isnt the problem, its being an asshole that is. and many cant help themselves.

Shoe companies have more to do with than than some jerk on twitter

so are you making up conspiracy theories lol
No idea what you are asking. You had to agree with that link, or you would never have shared it here. It’s ok to own that, don’t make you a bad person or fan. Everybody has a different level of beliefs. Thing is, do you believe it enough to own it, or will you waffle around?

well ya know what asshole? I don’t. I don’t follow any players on my kentucky twitter account, so sorry to burst your bubble jackass

I understand what you’re saying and it makes perfect sense but when your fan base is massive it can be a problem. I think we should watch the games as fans and relax. These young men are amateurs. They don’t deserve the constant negativity when they’re struggling.

Re-read my post.

And I can assure you we don't have the market cornered on crazies. They will experience this no matter where they go.

So no it is not the difference maker, although it is despicable

I didn’t have a side to the tweet I can see both sides to it so I figured I’d post it on the board to see what other fans thought of it I guess in hindsight I should’ve put a ? at the end of my title but oh well what can you do.

That's stupid. A UL fan could make a "pro UK" handle and say dumb shit and the untrained eye wouldnt know better. And every fan base has dumbass fans its part of the game. You either work with the 95% that are sane and take it all in or cry in a corner because the small percentage who are stupid got to you.
