Fan negativity is putting a dent in recruiting

The entire premise used as the basis for that tweet is faulty. There is no individual you could have a conversation with that 100% proves that notion, but congrats to the 590,000th UK news blog on their fifteen new clicks today.

I see two sides to this.

1. I do think that a more-sensitive-than-average type is unfit to be a UK player.

but

2. Every time this topic comes up, some fans get not just incredulous, but actually defensive, as if they want to protect their right to react like an 8 year old child throwing a playstation controller on the ground.

There are two totally different arguments - one is "The kids need to know it's going to happen because there are dumbasses out there" - like how robbery or assault inevitably occur every night and you can't fully prevent it.

The other is "I am that dumbass and you can't tell me what to do."

But if you keep your teenage girl mid-game histrionics to the message board, you are definitely a step or two above the guys who bring it to twitter. I'll give you that.

just passing on info lol

We have the largest most passionate fan base in all of college basketball. We are also one of the most hated programs in college basketball because we win. So social media can be used against us in ways like negative recruiting among other things and there is no way to prove who it is or what they are doing. Unfortunately along with being the biggest and best comes some good and bad, there is always going to be both on message boards. Doing this on social media is the easiest way to get their propaganda out there. Kentucky can be a very rewarding place to play basketball if you are tough enough to stay with it and humble you fast if you have thin skin. We have been first or second in recruiting since Cal has been here so I don't see much negative about it.

Because no other fan base does this, pro or college.

And if players can’t understand it’s a minuscule number of the overall fan base, that’s on them.
So true. I get annoyed when BBN seems to constantly get singled out for stuff, when other fan bases just get a pass. We no doubt have our crazies, but so does any other fan base that has been around forever and has a large following. Let me hop on twitter and I’m sure I could find some junk posted by fans of ul, unc, duke, ku, etc.

If you’re directly tweeting a player negative stuff, you are being an ass. But I’m just going say all these guys are trying to become pros, it isn’t going get rosier in the league in regards to fan interaction.

Seriously, I think there are a lot of teams out there that have a more vocal and rabid fanbase on social media than we do, if only because their fanbase is younger (students). Examples would be some schools with huge student bodies like Illinois and Penn State.

As you know, many of our “fans” see these kids as nothing more than a plow horse to get them the championship they think they deserve. Many of them didn’t even attend college, are dumb as dirt yet actually think they could teach Cal a thing or two, lol. Fliipin’ idiots.
the reversed default avatar lasted two days couldn’t help myself

I dont see the tweets as I dont a twitter, but it would seem like it would be more anonymous here as opposed to twitter where people know who you are. And I'd think the ability to hide what an obnoxious idiot you can be rises with the level of anonymity ?

I don't believe this for a minute. If it was Cal or his staff tweeting out negativity then yes but to think a recruit would even factor a fraction of his decision based on stuff a "fan" said is rediculous. LOL

Yes. I said in a similar thread the other day that you can’t take anyone on the internet serious as they may be pretending to be someone they’re not. Recruits know this.

So the source on this "finding" is a random guy with a twitter site and a couple thousand followers who had a "conversation" with -- and this is the key -- "someone" -- who "100 percent confirmed" the highly dubious claim that some top recruit who felt Kentucky's basketball program held the key to his $100 million future would have his mind changed by the drooling imbeciles who inhabit twitter-world.

Well, it is hard to argue with those facts. Hold on though. New information coming in: I can now report that - "someone" just "100 percent confirmed" for me that this guy is "totally full of sh!t."
