My understanding is that the baseball team is likely to play their closed door Fall World Series this Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Teams were chosen yesterday. Some big name players for UK may have to sit due to sickness/injury.

There might be an announcement soon about who is on what team, but I am not sure. I'll let you know what I find out.

Edit note: Originally, I had put that Saturday was the finally day. It is actually Sunday. My apologies.

My understanding is that we will likely see Hagenow v. Ramsey on day 1 of the fall classic.

Pretty impressive from the freshman that his teammates think highly enough of him that they'd slate him for Game 1.

Sure is impressive.
Also says our holdovers from last season were not as impressive possibly.

Looking forward to seeing the lineups.

Looking at the two rosters, it still amazes me how many pitchers are in the roster - looks like 20+. Guess they’re needed but it just seems like a large number.

Interesting that the blue team switched from Ramsey in Game 1 to righty freshman Austin Strickland.

I am hearing some rumblings that Rubalcaba may end up our starting catcher and will send Kessler to a backup role.

Have also heard that Estep is tearing it up and both teams were fighting hard to get him on their squad.

I'd expect the rosters to largely look like this:

Blue:

CF - Hill
LF - Bryan
RF - McCarthy
1B - Collett (if healthy/safe -
2B - Hicks (don't know that Schultz will play due to health)
3B - Church
SS - Ritter
DH - Anu
C - Rubalcaba

A shortage of good outfielders here. This is a testament to how bad Anu is defensively. He likely can't/won't get out there even on this smaller roster. Not sure what you might see happen if Collett can't go. Maybe Hord at first?

Black :

CF - Shelby
LF - Rhodes
RF - Liebert (?)
1B - Harmon
2B - Lewis
3B - Estep
SS - Plastiak
DH - Grace (?)
C - Kessler

Black team is harder to put together in some ways as they have Grace, Lewis, Plastiak, and Kavanagh that could call play up the middle. You could possibly see Harmon DH and Kessler play 1st with one of their other catchers behind the dish. You could see Lewis in right and Grace at 2nd.

Great stuff. I looked up Rubalcaba stats from JUCO and they were okay but nothing that jumped out.

I think in large part it is his defense. He controls the run game extremely well and can gun anyone who tries to steal on him. Also, probably doesn't help that Kessler was not hitting well in the Spring.

Sounds like Schultz and Bryan may be out with injuries, but that Collett will likely play.

If no Bryan then I guess you could see King in the OF, or possibly Anu going out there with Hord at DH.

Well... apparently they are underway in Lexington.

I am not sure who is starting where, but Kessler apparently hit a home run for the black team and TJ Collett answered for the blue team with his own home run.

Sounds like they are trading home runs back and forth.

Anu with a 2 run shot seemingly gives the blue team the lead and Harmon draws the black team closer with his own solo shot.

All these updates are on Twitter if you're interested.

Well, apparently the game ended after 7 innings with Blue winning 3-2.

Blue was going to score another run, but Rhodes got an assist at home with a perfect throw from right (which means my lineup prediction was a bit wrong, lol).

I hear that it was Cam Hill who had a 2 strike base hit followed by the Anu home run that gave the Blue team the lead they needed to win today's scrimmage.

Maybe we will get more information soon. Would like to know what they did with the pitchers and how long the freshmen went in the game.

Game 2 underway

Ohh! Thanks!! I had forgotten with everything else in chaos. Lol

Cole Stupp is on the mound for the blue team and transfer Holt Jones on board for the black.

Looks like Blue team is killing black. They led things off with a Ritter two run single to score Collett and Rubalcaba (this kid needs a nickname). Then Anu tripled off the wall to score Hill and Rubalcaba. 4-1 through 3 innings at that point.

That was just before 11am EST. No updates since.

Black made their comeback with the help of a dropped strike 3. Rhodes was at the plate and the ball got past Raba on a called third strike allowing Rhodes on and to advance the runners. Shelby then dinked one in no-man's land past the pitcher to advance everyone before Estep hit a triple to clear the bases and take the lead.

According to Twitter, UMass transfer Sean Harney worked 2 excellent innings.

Final and deciding game got underway a while ago. Hazelwood on for Black and Kammin for Blue. Last update was about an hour ago and had the game tied at 1 through 3 innings.

Was wondering if anyone heard much about Ben Jordan in the Fall Series or practices?
