I noticed this but wondered if anyone else did until Matt brought it up in the post-game show. When we failed to convert on 3rd down at mid-field at the beginning of the second half the camera was zoomed in on Stoops and Dawson as they contemplated going for the 4th down attempt. The play clock ticked down to about 20 seconds before Stoops made the decision to go for it. The play call was sent in and the team broke the huddle with about 9 seconds to get the play off. Seconds later we failed to convert.

The part that bothered me about it was that Stoops and Dawson didn't seem to have a plan prior to 15 seconds having already run off the play clock. The play call seemed to have been made hastily and the offense was rushed to the line to get it off. The whole sequence seemed very impulsive with very little prior thought behind it.

I may be reading too much into this but it gave me the impression that maybe the staff is failing to think big picture throughout the course of the game. That instead of thinking a few steps ahead that there are critical decisions being made on the fly. It would call into question the ability to gameplan situations that come up throughout the game.

I have not been very critical of this staff and I think it's too early to put anyone on the hot seat. I don't think we can say for sure how good or bad anyone we have on this staff is quite yet. I do think in that situation that Stoops and Dawson showed their relative inexperience as a head coach and a stand-alone OC. In the post-game press conference you could tell that Stoops was beating himself up over that decision and knew just how dumb it was to make that call down 7 with so much time left in the middle of the field
