Fade Tennessee or No?

Houston’s offense is better than Tennessee’s though. Houston is better on both ends
Oh, it will be a low scoring rock fight, for sure.
If Lanier and Gainey shoot like they did against us, UT will win.

BUT. I expect the Vols to crash and burn after being sky high for our game. They have won their Super Bowl.

UT will go as little ziegler goes. If that little kid brings the intensity and performs, I like UT. But if he blew his wad against UK (and he did act like it was his wildest dream), then Ziegler will be returning to the lollipop guild.

Houston is the 12th best offensive efficiency team in the nation.

Don't confuse slow pace/low number of points per game with points per possession.

They shoot near 40% from 3 on the season, only turn it over on 14% of their possessions and rebound 37% of their misses.

They are every bit as good on offense.
They also have the #1 ranked 3 point shooting percentage in the country at 39.8%.

I can’t help but wonder if Tennessee will stumble tomorrow after playing so fired up last night. It couldn’t happen to a better team. What do think?
They done lost to two SEC teams that Tennessee has beaten this year.
The SEC is a step up from their league.
I wouldn't be expecting any blow outs.
Down to the wire I believe it will go.
Houston does tend to go on spurts without hitting. Vols usually do but this tournament they have been making it a point of emphasis to get to the basket.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Tennessee won.
If I had to bet tho, I'd take Houston.
If I didn't have to bet this game I'd stay away from it.

Vegas Line: O/U Total 124.5
Translated: Final score in the low 60's.
This game is going to be an ugly Rock Fight.

Totally unpredictable, but Officials will determine the winner.
My $$ is on Houston.

Can someone translate "Fade Tennessee or no?" for me? Is that some kind of gambling slang or something else?

Houston didn’t worry me at all, bummer laid a clunker against ewe tee.

The vols got the bounce against us and I just can’t see ever rebound falling in their lap two games in a row.

But it’d be great to leave sears and Ziegler in the elite 8.

I’ve had UT over Houston in this game since the bracket came out.

Removing their names, I think UT is slightly better due to Houston’s over reliance on Cryer to make something happen when they get bogged down.

Not removing their names, I guess UT has to prove that they can actually get over the Final Four hump.

As most have said, this is setting up as a classic rock fight coin flip.

I'm not even sure their win was really them "fired up", we just rolled over.

I do think Tennessee is a matchup problem for other teams, but I think Houston wins easily

Devil’s advocate, no one has beaten UT easily all year besides Florida, and us, sort of.

I’m not sure Houston plays with enough pace to make this an easy win, but I won’t be surprised either way (Houston win or Tennessee win).

I think we are giving ourselves way too much credit. They soundly kicked our butt, we did not give the game away. They wanted it more to settle the score somewhat on the two earlier losses. Why can we never admit we got beat fair and square. They took away our three point shooters and we did not or could not get open shots off the dribble. Tip your hat and move on. I could care less if they ever win another game but if they don't it will not be a Kentucky effect. With the team we had this year, we were no one's super bowl. Don't forget we were a middle of the SEC team that far exceeded our expectaions with a team assembled in six weeks from the portal. Give Pope two more years and we may become school's super bowl game. Go Houston!

We were definitely still a “Super Bowl” game for everyone we played. Did you see Auburn’s celebration after their win?

Not sure why you’re so hung up on discounting this.

I was with you 100% through the sixth sentence, but then I ran right off the track. I firmly believe UT dug down deep to repay UK for two losses. And they played to near perfection.* My question is whether they will play with the same intensity against Houston, or whether the catharsis of beating their border-state rival leave them drained (i.e., the Kentucky effect).

*Aike: is there a single metric or two that would indicate whether UT overachieved—played above their season average capacity—against UK?

The number that sticks out most to me is that they rebounded 46% of their misses, vs. a season average of 34%.

That was the ballgame, imo. Prevented us from stringing together stops and applying any game pressure.

On the flip side, they were only 5/19 from three. They really didn’t play a special game, imo. They out hustled us on the boards more than anything.

I would expect Houston to do a better job on the boards, but Houston actually isn’t a great defensive rebounding team. Better than us, but not great.

I suspect this game will turn on who knocks down their threes. UT holds teams to 28.5% from three. Houston 30.5%. Houston leads the country in 3 point percentage, but they don’t shoot them at a high rate. They hit a lot of timely threes.

I guess my non scientific gut feeling is that the game will hinge on Tennessee’s ability to bottle up Cryer. Mashack staying out of foul trouble may be as important as anything.

Thanks. I knew they shot poorly from three but I was surprised to see that they only shot 63% from inside the arc. Felt a lot higher. Maybe that was the illusion of their rebounding. Seems like they scored on every single possession.

Are you drunk???
Nowhere in that post did I say we gave the game away and certainly didn't give us ANY credit for UT soundly whipping us.

In the two games we won against them, they simply couldn't hit shots and we did.

This game was just the opposite. Their shooters hit shots, ours didn't. We lost.

And FYI, I live in TN.

BEATING UK IN ANYTHING IS THEIR SUPERBOWL. ESPECIALLY MEN'S BASKETBALL.

All he does is twist posters words to make it into some narrative it is not and sell short Pope/UK.
