My son and I attended that game the crowd really got ugly at the end, they were throwing coins at the Ky players and threw a water bottle that missed Ramon Harris nose by inches, we the took 3 cussings on the way to our truck. I told him to keep his head down and keep walking. Finally one big man spoke up and said don't judge all our fans by those, I thanked him and kept moving. Calipari looks 20 years younger then. Not sure if anyone else noticed but they are replaying the Miss St game 2010 and 2009 UConn game right now.
Baker is a shooterI know a lot of people will always joke around and say we need shooters for next yr. But it is absolutely true. If that team had another really good shooter, we would have easily won a NC. All that talent and our outside shooting killed us in the end.

The problem with this is ppl will always say this unless we win the championship. Or even if we have shooters if they don't shoot 100% or the team has one bad game they'll claim we don't have shooters. It's a dumb stance. That 2010 team won 35 games....35! That team averaged 80+ a game. There were several teams with "snipers" everyone obsessed over that didn't score that much. The reality is you shouldn't have to live and die and bank your entire season on if some guy is hitting or not. It's not like Calipari goes, oh this guy can't shoot, let's get him...or to my original statement he can pick a guy up bc he can shoot, but that doesn't mean he won't have an off game, or can he do anything else that doesn't negate the points he scored like letting his man score at will. But what you can control...your defense and rebounding. If other teams can't score and don't get many second chances..you don't have to pray every shot little Johnny throws up goes in.I know a lot of people will always joke around and say we need shooters for next yr. But it is absolutely true. If that team had another really good shooter, we would have easily won a NC. All that talent and our outside shooting killed us in the end.

Exactly true.A really cold night ended our season. It wasn't the lack of shooters. We had enough on that team to win the championship easily. For some reason, we decided to jack up a bunch of threes in that game instead of playing to our strengths. I hardly ever criticize Cal, I don't think he's perfect by any means but I think he gets a hellava lot more right than he gets wrong but in this instance, I wish he wouldve demanded we stop shooting the three that game. Call a TO and get them to stop shooting threes! If they didn't, put them on the bench. Hell, our bench players couldve beaten that WVU team. We played right into to Huggins' hands that game. We did exact what he wanted us to do. WVU didn't even score a 2 point shot in the 1st half and we still got beat. That was just a piss poor performance but we had a good enough team to win the tournament for sure.
I get that, and part of me agrees. But part of me wants to point out they had a pretty good coach, too, a guy who's won 700+ games. And he had a pretty good team, and he realized the way to contend with our size and athleticism was to get us to shoot 3s and so he devised a game plan to bait us into doing that. Had we faced a 1-3-1 all year? I doubt it. It's kind of a disappearing zone. So he baits us, and we don't have the experience to not fall for it. It's not, I don't think, simply a matter of calling a TO and saying "no more 3s!!!" - because that's all that was there to be had, at least on the surface. Just inexperience and not being patient enough to work the ball until something else was open - and if WVa had much experience running that particular D, maybe nothing does. I also recall Cal saying the team had a particularly bad practice the day before, its first bad practice of the season, and recall Jones saying something wasn't right, that they were openly bickering in warmups and at the half - first time he'd seen that all year. So, to me, the summary of that sad ending isn't "This is what can happen if you don't have enough shooters!" Instead it's "This is what can happen if you rely on freshmen!"A really cold night ended our season. It wasn't the lack of shooters. We had enough on that team to win the championship easily.
