ESPN ruined BBM last night.

Well the last few yrs it wasnt televised at all with the exception of a token look see was it?

Yeah, I prefer things like BBM to be on local TV. ESPN talking heads just ramble on and on about nothing most of the time, talking over Cal or the player intros, etc.

Sorry, I forgot it was SEC Network. Same result though.

Am I missing something? I watched it on the SEC network and I thought it was just fine.

It's been televised around the state for decades. Just recently was it a national telecast and nowhere near as enjoyable if what you're interested in is the scrimmage, which is the only reason I'd watch it.

I'm not saying I don't appreciate all of the national attention, I just thought they could've shut the hell up during the intros, and let us watch the guys play instead of looking a Cal's mug via split screen. Why do we need to see him talking when live basketball is being played.

I guess "ruined" was a little too strong, but they made it annoying.

Kinda nit picking there. You do understand that our practice was on ESPN right?

Completely took away from the player intros, something I look forward to every year, and ruined the scrimmage by showing Calipari talking instead of the players on the court. Bring back Rob Bromley and Dave Baker.
Thank you, Mrs. Bromley.[winking]

It doesn't have to be perfect on their first year.

Let's hope they improve on it. Also why hate on ESPN/SECN?

They have been helping Coach Cal market UK. NBA Combine, BBM, and B/W Game. Now three nationally televised game (much easier access to USA market).

Bingo

They just started doing this during games over the last few years. Why on earth do we need to see the person being interviewed during game play?

me too. some people just need something to complain about.

if they got to see the intros more...they would complain about their being too much dancing and rap music.
Yeah I don't get it Boston, I was sitting there with a smile that went from the bedroom to the kitchen. My Cats were practicing and it was on ESPN. There was a legit officiating crew there and television analysts. I can't believe some people.
This place is goung to be a cesspool when Cal leaves and those cameras go away. Wow.

Before when it was done by the local network , they'd cut away from the action like every 3 minutes for a commercial and everyone complained. I learned long ago if you want to see every second of it, go to the damn event.

Honestly I wonder if there is something in the SEC contract or NCAA rules that just allow so much tv coverage of non game action.

i actually enjoyed it. they said several times they loved covering it. i like kira lawson as an analyst. she doesn't show off but pretty much knows where each of our players is at when she calls a game. she covers kentucky pretty well imo.

So let me get this straight.

When Brom and Baker were doing it, it was boring, bland, and tiresome. Just flat out hard watch and listen to. Wish we had a real national crew to do it.

You get your leftist politically correct national crew, equipped with a multiracial element and bi-gender (lord knows ESPN can't put two white men together OH THE HORROR), and now that's a problem.

I've got the answer. Just stop f"Ing watching because some are going to complain no matter what.

Wow really? Ever been to a game?
Several Memorial when I was a student at WKU. Moved to Florida shortly after Rupp opened and have not been to a game there. Am now retired and plan on getting up for a game or two.
Plan on seeing the South Florida game in Miami.

I see. I'd chose living in Florida as well.

I also didn't like it, it was not all pro UK, which is great for games, but BBM is a celebration, not the time to discuss who can beat us this year

I guess I just don't pay attention to what they're saying. I was watching the event, not listening to them talk. I have no clue what they talked about, as I was trying to figure out who's who.

Why don't people just turn the tv down?

I guess I just don't get it.

Everything would have been fine, if they just quit splitting the screen. We did not need to see Cal while he was talking. I enjoyed "hearing" Cal and watching the guys. Leaving the guys up there and have Cal as background noise. That would have been perfect.

I live in So Calif, and the tix for the upcoming UCLA game are 175 for upper end zone seats, and up to 600-700 for floor level end zone tix. So any TV I get is appreciated from SEC/ESPN/CBS and on.
I visit this board every day just to check what is happening. I am 'all in' as a Cat fan.

Let them talk, as long as they keep the team on part of the screen, I'm ok.

Sorry but this is ridiculous. The coverage of BBM was absolute trash. This wasn't just UK fans "looking for something to complain about". The coverage killed the event. It's not even worth watching if this continues.

There were about 2 mentions of Tyler Ulis, 1 of Briscoe, Skal and Murray each and that's it. The rest of the players never even got their names mentioned. Which is especially bad because there were player introductions. They probably spent more time talking about LSU's recruiting class than our own team. Absolute unwatchable crap.

lol ok man.

uk had 2 hours a free pub and we got to see players half ass a practice. what did you want...bilias breaking down plays on the monitor?

but feel free to keep complaining.

Yeah, the announcers may have talked too much, the broadcast may have cut away from some parts, but guess what? UK is the only school to have their madness broadcasted in its entirety on national TV. Not so sure that's what I would consider "ruining" BBM.

Did you really need to see every bit of the same over-fluffed intros we see every year? And the BBM "scrimmage" is never really anything more than a meaningless half-speed no-real defense fun run anyways.

I know others still quite enjoy it, but personally, I've come to view BBM as the single most overrated event on the UK calendar. There's no real basketball on display, there's nothing really to learn about the team from a purely for fun event like that, and if you've seen one BBM, you've basically seen em all.

I may have missed it but does anyone know why ESPN didn't do their normal coverage of different schools madness events? And why wasn't Bilas at ours last night? I thought I heard he was going to be there.

I think it's funny we have the only one televised nationally. ESPN didn't even do an around the country madness special this year. We were the only show in town

Hey liveblue92, I'll come to your defense. I was annoyed at the split screen during the scrimmage as well. We see Calipari talking very often, but this was our first chance to see these guys play together and against each other. So I'm with you. "Ruined" may have been a little strong, but I did get annoyed at their excessive talking during the intros and that split screen.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so. Was there any coverage of the crazy race to get a spot for UK Tent City? Or, Cal, players, etc. bringing pizza? Any footage of people waiting in line to buy tickets? Fans are what BBM is all about. Need to give them some love on the broadcast.

I disagree with this, at least partially. Yes there is not usually much defense and it's basically just a pick-up game. (Though, someone forgot to tell Ulis about not playing D) Calipari said so himself last night. But you can learn some things. Shooting, ball handling, quickness, ability to finish in traffic, passing, all of these things can be seen and it doesn't matter whether it's a real game or not.

For example, Jamal Murray drove the lane multiple times and was able to finish on both sides of the rim. That reverse layup looked automatic. I think we knew he could do that, but this scrimmage showed it. He also pulled up for the 3 and for the midrange J. I saw enough last night to know that he will likely lead the team in scoring this season.

I also picked up on quite an improvement from Lee. He looks stronger and his jumper has definitely improved. If it's possible, he looked even more athletic out there.

I also learned that Alex is definitely not fully back to 100%. He was a bit timid and didn't look ready for the season to start yet.

So I do think we can learn some things from a scrimmage. If I had been able to see the scrimmage better, without the split screen, I might have learned more.

ummmmm where u seeing that? an allotment? i'm hearing anywhere from 4-9 k near the floor.

just glad I got to watch it on tv. Yeah talking during intros kinda sucked but listening to Cal during practice was great. We will get to see the team plenty on TV this yr. Isn't Blue/White game televised??
