Eliot, Dawson and Marrow hosting KSR NOW!

First call missed the mark a little bit. Fan since the 60s, said he believes we have always had an above average D since he can remember, but last years pass rush was poor - can we get better?

Eliot - Appreciates the support, but counters than we finished in the top half of the SEC in sacks (6th) but he also wants more...then added that it isn't always about the sack, but changing the QBs comfort level...added we finished 3rd with INTs.

Crap. I'm out of state. Have to fire up the podcast when I get home.

2nd call tried to get them to talk about Kash Daniel.

3rd asked about the UVA QB transferring to UGA...

WTH kind of questions are these? ha

Marrow says they rank players on the big board...don't look at rankings on sites...could have a 2* at Rivals be a 4* on their board...said they can offer a guy first and then see 15 schools follow their lead because they know how good of evaluators they are.

Marrow earlier spoke of the '15 class...loves it. Tried to make the late losses into a positive because of all the length they ended up adding in the secondary. Said big George could be like a Bud Dupree (great character, high draft pick), already one of the top lifters.

Earlier Eliot spoke of the replacements for Dupree and Smith. Mention Ware, Hatcher, Johnson, Daniel, Huguenin...excited about them, but big shoes to fill.

Favorite moment - Dupree pick 6

Will Hatcher break out? - Eliot thinks so - excited to watch him

Any brother problems after UK -OK battles - just part of the business, each have won their share of the battles.

Will the xfers be eligible? Still up in the air, will wait for Coach Stoops to comment

Tightends - can they contribute? - Marrow excited about Conrad and Long, fired up about them but young.

Impact on CWS upgrades? - said helps recruiting big time...will be top 10 in country

QB position improvements? - impressed with both, Towles has upper hand. "Fired up about both those guys"

Dawson mentioned how disruptive Elam is, even when going against Toth (who he believes is very good). Said just someone with that size lining up across center is disruptive.

Would love to see Elam get the starting job this season. He's cut a lot of weight given where he was, and he is definitely stronger, and in better shape. I say we let him get up on that 3 man front with Cory Johnson and Melvin Lewis. I think they could make a ton of plays at the line of scrimmage. Elam's size and strength alone calls for a double team at times, and Melvin Lewis is very good. Really opens things up for our 4 linebackers.

Good call about use of RBs in passing game and WR rotation though...finally sounded good on a call.

Dawson believe running the ball and dinking and dunkin to bring the safeties up...but then wants to hurt you vertically...big believer of the vertical pass game. Wants to use the flats if they are giving it to us, says open field tackling is toughest thing to do, so if they are giving our RB 10 yards of cushion out there, we want the qb to hit them.

We know Dawson is a big proponent of taking what the defense gives. He will run the ball 75 times if the defense opens the box and begs you to run.

That would be a huge DL that would eat up blockers and open things up for the LBs. Each one should demand a double team.

Said overall talent on UK offense is as good as anywhere he has been...more than WVU, even though WVU had the some high picks.

Size on the line, length at WR just have more of it here.

Wants to use the flats....that would be nice I think we passed to the middle of the field once the entire season.

I am stuck at work. Never get to hear KSR any more. Need you guys to fill us all in on what is said.
Podcast my friend. Nothing easier. Im subbed to the KSR podcast and the Cats Illustrated podcast using Pocket Cast app on my phone.

He said he sees a lot of defenses nowadays that WANT you to pass in the middle...so he didn't really comment on using the middle, but it wont be less than last year...like you said.

The flats and just beyond the DL is where Couch made his bread and butter. He would go outside and deep often. But the RBs and TEs in the flat and between the DL and LB is where our offense excelled. I think this is the perfect plan for us. Use the flats early and often. Then burn the D deep when they start to cheat up.

I think it may benefit us marginally now that we have a full-time 3-4. 3 big bodied, powerful defensive tackles at all times. The DE's will now have defined roles in the defense, not having to be a hybrid like Dupree.
On top of that, having a very, very good linebacker coach who has proven himself as a linebacker coach. Coaches get to coach more specific roles now (where they specialize), and not have to worry about dividing your time up to coach both the linebackers, as well as the safeties (for example). A whole new class of Stoops recruits coming in, another year of development in the high performance program, our best recruiting class in school history comes off of redshirt season. A lot to be excited about.

Dawson said this backfield is as good as any he has had.

Very encouraging to hear. Give this team that offense, and I think we could definitely be very tough to beat. Excited to see it play out on the field.

This is what really has me excited about the season. If Towles continues to improve, if our OL is improved, our guys are gonna have an opportunity to really pad their numbers in this offense. It wouldn't shock me to see this team average near 40 pts/game. Especially if our defense can continue to cause turnovers.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I'm not sure if you understand where the flats are located.

Flats usage flat out killed UL! I thought why didn't Pitrino/Grantham stop them... and all I could see was a UK win in the end! Yes, use those flats!

Whether or not he starts is pretty moot as the rotate guys in pretty regularly. Matt just has to get his conditioning up to where he can stay on the field and remain effective play after play.

This is music to my ears! I really think Elam can be the difference between a close loss and a close win. He is crucial to help our defense clog up that middle. Elam is a big key to us winning in the next 2 years.

Wouldn't have beaten South Carolina without him, despite him playing very few downs. He was noticeably difficult to stop on each of those downs. Had a couple of tipped passes in a short amount of time.

Has anyone seen or heard how Elam's conditioning is going, since we're on the subject. Hosses like him are how we win in the SEC.

Also, loved Dawson's demeanor today. Seems like he's a "player's coach" which will hopefully pay dividends on the field and on the recruiting trail.

Yep, you just cannot teach that kind of size. He is a big part of our rebuilding efforts.

Stoops is a guy that tells it like it is and don't sugar coat anything... This year he can't keep from exonerating optimism...... You can see it by the way he looks, and by some of the things that he says about his team... The assistants are feeling the same way too... Our new offensive Co. is verbal in telling the difference in the talent at WVU and this years UK team.... He likes what he has to work with... Stoops is liking the backfield....... So, I think we'll have the best team we've had in years...

The comments made yesterday, as well as at the Governor's Cup luncheon are very encouraging. Dawson seems more than pleased with the overall talent we have (as you mentioned, he said himself that UK's talent is superior to WVU's, who did very, very well against really good teams), and then you look at the optimism of all the coaches, and Stoops saying that we'll be significantly improved from last season. Hard not to get excited when those guys are so confident about our team.
