EKU v. Kentucky

Ritter got that big swing back right there. He struggles when he does that. He's best when it's short and simple.

@Comebakatz3 are you little concerned about the way the pitching staff is being handled tonight in regards for the weekend?

I don't necessarily think so. I think everyone is getting an inning and should be able to pitch again this weekend.

I'm concerned for the bullpen in general as I'm not sure we now have anyone in the pen we can trust other than Guilfoil. Harney and Williams were the 2, but now they're starters. Everyone else has been fairly inconsistent.

Wow EKU pitcher was dealing and then just lost it entirely with 2 outs. Bases loaded for UK.

UK with an RPI of 41 right now, before this loss.

EKU with an RPI of 151. This would be, at the time of the loss, a 3rd Q4 loss for UK and EKU's first Q1 win.

It's almost entirely the weekends that matter, but losses like this do us no favors.

Cats go down 6-3.

Rollercoaster of a team. Never know which team will show up. We’ve struggled mightily with mid majors this year which isn’t good.

So we’ve lost to Western and Eastern. Good thing we don’t play Northern or we’d get the trifecta. 😂😂😂

Should have dropped that one to Bellarmine as well but SS dropped a pop up for the last out in the 9th.

Right now we really shouldn't care much about the midweek games. They are trying to do everything they can to make sure we have a stable of arms on the weekend where everyone can be available. We are in a similar place as SC right now. Injuries have hurt an already incomplete staff, so it's like we are gonna have to just kind of let the midweek be what it is so we can have our best chance on the weekend. SC lost to Xavier and fans were pissed, then they beat Texas in a weekend series. They lost to Citadel then beat Vandy on a weekend series. They are about to lose to Presbyterian tonight. It happens. Gotta prioritize.

Cats had bases loaded 3 times tonight and got 1 run out of all that. Ridiculous. Pitching however....don't get me started on these midweek mishaps. It's baseball and it happens, we all get it, but when we've taken down TCU and UGA, I mean it's not outlandish to say these midweekers will come back to bite us down the stretch.

I agree with you too a point but these midweek games are important come tournament time if you are on the bubble. Plus, UK has not looked good at all against the “weaker” midweek games outside the last two innings of the Murray State game.

Pitching didn't lose us that game last night. Lack of timely hitting did. We walked 7 times and rarely did we take advantage of those. I'd be more inclined to follow your logic here if we had lost some shootout and we just didn't have the arms to compete due to injuries, but that isn't what happened. Rather, the arms did enough that our bats could have won us that game.

Just a let down after having a good hitting Saturday and Sunday.

Well....yes the bats let us down there's no doubt. But I'd argue we shouldn't be giving up 6 runs to EKU either. We've just not been getting great starts from our midweek guys.

Yep... pitching wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. We shouldn't give up 6 runs to EKU, but we also should hit more. The thing is, its just one game. It just takes their guy to be amped up pitching against an SEC school and have a great start and our guy not be amped up cause he is pitching midweek and not weekend and its a perfect setup for a letdown. Early in the season, a lot of midweek guys in these smaller school conferences are unproven, untested kids who the coaches are taking a look at and they could wind up in the weekend rotation before the end of the year.

SC lost to Presbyterian last night, who lost to Campbell 36-4 this past weekend. Go figure. They drove up in Minivans to the game... and beat SC... who just beat Vandy in a weekend series. Baseball is weird.

Totally agree. You can't get too high or too low off a single baseball game like we do with basketball and football. I think it's the accumulation of midweek mishaps as I'm calling them that has folks frustrated. Especially when you see how we have fared against good teams. Even if our dearth of pitching depth is exposed, yes, our bats absolutely have to show up in these games.

I think this is spot on.

Seems like we play to the level our competition.

I think if this team wins 14 league games and goes to the NCAA tournament then we can largely ignore the bad mid-week losses. However, as it stands right now, with the fact that Mingione has underwhelmed in 5 of 6 years, the fact that we’re underwhelming in a ‘new’ ball park, the fact that Tennessee’s new coach has already taken them to the CWS and has them ranked number 1, and the fact that our program is by far the worst program in the league… well… all that frustration has me short on patience and losses like those only exacerbate that.

I agree on the talent disparity. Feel like we haven’t signed a good class in quite a while. Depending way too much on transfers and juco guys under mingione. Not a good recipe imo.

Underwhelmed is a good description. In my opinion, Mingione really needs to show some improvement or I think it’s time to move on.

Recruiting and development has been poor to say the least.

To get to 14, Kentucky has to play at worst, .500 ball. I’m not convinced they can.

Mizzou and Auburn look like the only SEC potential reprieves we have. And those arent guarantees.

Not to mention, we still have the Dirty Birds twice.

Ole Miss
@Texas A&M (who just waxed Texas)
@Mizzou
Vandy
@Florida
Tennessee
@Carolina
Auburn

I mean.....that is brutal. But we did take down TCU and UGA. So who knows.
