Alright, I must be absolutely stupid. I don't claim to be a FB genius by any means, but I need the explanation of how the defense is not to blame tonight for this loss. Because I'm seeing it ALL over the net that the offense was the problem.

So, EILI5 because I'd like to learn. Tell me how a defense that has given up over 122 points in three games and 500 yards tonight is ok.

You won’t give up over 250 rushing yards and win very often.

Holy shit how did you know that? Is this a thing now? I can’t wait until humans evolve to the point where we can just use straight up telepathy
It'a common shorthand on the internet for when someone is wanting a complex topic broken down to a level even a 5 year old could understand. I was using it somewhat sarcastically because apparently I'm just missing somehting.

Missed tackles
Wrong angles
Not in shape
Late reading the play
Constantly looking to the sideline while UT ran their plays
Everyone in the stadium knowing where the ball was going except for our defense

This defense has NUMEROUS problems!!!

Go look at the scores of the P5 games that were played today How many of the games won did the winning teams score 30+ points. In 2023 those teams are winning the vast majority of games are scoring bunches. Even the goat has even stated than in today's game defense no longer wins games or championships. We unfortunately have maybe one of the top2-3 most conservative offensive minds in the country. Till HE changes, our situation will not.

Defense was definitely not good and neither was Tennessee's. Even with the poor defense, had the coaches not start off the game as business as usual and made some head scratching play calls, we could have/should have still won.

Throwing deep on 4th and 6 (could have tried a long field goal). Running it from shotgun on 4th and 1. Switching to the wildcat when we were moving the ball with ease. I believe there was 1 other bad play that forced the other long field goal. All of those ended up costing us some points by not getting TD's or not getting a chance at a FG.

That’s a joke if they said that. The offense kept us on the game all night long. The defense gave up chunks of yards every drive and scores left and right.

Defense has been disappointing this year. Everyone knew there was an experience and depth concerns in the secondary. Middle LB depth was also a concern.

Second half we had Andru Phillips at nickel in place of Alex Afari (2nd best player on D). That meant Hardaway at corner. Ty Bryant at safety (no Geiger, no Lovett). Trevin wallace was out.

JJ Weaver has been a huge disappointment. We need help on the edge. More bodies at inside backer.

Good news is guys are getting experience for next year.

The defense is terrible. The defensive play calling was terrible. Outside of a couple of people the players are not good either. Brad White has benefitted from a senior laden linebacking core and a once in a generation talent in Allen. This is what it looks like when he has none of that.

The only gripe I can see on the offense is that they are so damn slow. When they started to get the lead out of their ass and push the tempo the whole machine started to click. Then they went back to that 15 second huddle crap and the drives fell apart.

There were a few stupid offensive calls A)why throw two go routes 4th and 6 and then another one on 3rd and 10 when you just need a first down to extend the drive B ) the wildcat, C). refusing to keep doing what they couldn't stop, BUT...

This loss is 100% on the defense. That was just a putrid defensive performance. UT didn't do anything creative at all on offense, they just ran it down our throats. It seemed like we had them bottled up all night but the RB would just squirt through for 9 yards seemingly every down.

This was disgusting.

Anyone of the "Defense was fine" crowd wanna chime in?
There seriously cant be anyone who believes the defense is fine right? If anyone was saying that last night they must not have watched the game. Defense besides a few good stops in the 3rd quarter was mostly terrible.

Said elsewhere that giving a mediocre QB 8 seconds to find a receiver who is given a 10 yard cushion and hope the QB throws a bad pass isn't working. Giving EKU 17 points and Vandy 28 early on should've been a hint to all of us that UK has no effective defense.

Nobody on our team can tackle. I’ve never seen a guy ready to take a loss or gain 2 around the line of scrimmage or right behind it. Our defender is there only to bounce right off him, or dive at them and miss only to let them gain 10/15/20 yards.

They were chirping on here all day Saturday leading up to the game about our good defense. Said my point of giving up 28, 51 and 38 in 3 sec games was irrelevant and they were still good. Haven't heard from those much since Saturday pre game. I suspect if we beat msu 24 to 17 they will be back though lol.

If Tn gets a really good QB they will contend for SEC title ,thier coach has a really good offensive mind and thats the name of the game in modern college football. Stoops will never beat that guy playing 1960s football
Spot on post that these defense still wins games folks refuse to get.

That still doesn't explain how the defense that didn't force a punt until the third quarter didn't cost us the game.

Nope, this team has gone the way of My favorite NFL team, the 49er's. Defense looked great early on before imploding the last three games.

The offense wasn't without it's issues as people have touched on, but at least they played probably the best offensive game they've played all year in terms of Leary being more accurate and Receivers actually making tough catches. There were very few drops in the game. It looked more like the offense we thought we had going into the season.

But yeah, defense lost that game and the Refs with the blown call kept us from being in position to take the lead and maybe some momentum. We got royally jobbed on that call.
