Economic Inflation....the starting point of a new great depression?

The economy and the stock market are not the same. That's the real takeaway.

A better marker would be labor participation and tracking positions open. Imo that's a way better indicator of the economy.
The stock market is just like the dog track.

There.

We may have stagflation. Aggregate supply is constrained and the government is eyeing policies to further restrict it. Simultaneously they are pouring gasoline on aggregate demand.

Will be neat to go back to monitoring the misery index (rate of inflation plus unemployment rate).

It's only going to get worse. If you're going to buy a car or real estate you better do it now while interest rates are still low. They'll have to raise interest rates to double digits to get this thing under control.
The Jimmy Carter years are back. Wait until people try to buy a house at 16.8% interest like I did in 1981. We have a very low IQ population in America now and most of our financial institutions, academic institutions and government institutions are run by students of Marxism. We have all the signs of going down the path of Venezuela or even worse Cuba.

When Biden was installed we were told this is what America wants. 81 million voters spoke and Capitalism was to be placed on the trash heap aswe explore Socialism. The way things are going we are on the path.

But again, the majority of Americans want this. So the media tell us. They are all in with Bernie, AOC and F__JB . The rest of us will just have to lump it and survive on our experience and knowledge of the best was to resist.

Cattle farmer here. Purchased a new tractor in 2010 for around 48000.00. To replace today is in the neighborhood of 80000.00. That’s on par for other equipment and parts as well. Was getting around 1.50 per pound for feeder cattle ( the ones your steak comes from) in 2010. Last week, the average price at my local market was 20 to thirty cents lower than 2010 prices. But it’s not so bad, right? Enjoy your steaks and other meats shipped across the waters in the not so distant future, to go along with your rice. We farmers are up against it. At least my kind are. Up the creek without a paddle.

Welcome to the decline of a nation/empire. And it's not one side or the other it's both. I'm so glad I paid a metric ish load of money for a college degree when I was told by my economics professors that I'm part of the first American generation to anticipate making less money than the last.

Thank you sir for my donation of tens of thousands of dollars for the opportunity to get the kind of job my dad's generation could get with a free high school degree. We used to be land of opportunity, now we are the land of the internet social media puppet show.

We'll all be eating beyond meat if we're lucky. Things like beef and most meat will be like caviar or high end lobster or maybe as tough to get and as rare as wagyu. It'll be a delicacy, just a matter of what degree.

It was all avoidable. If history is allowed to be accurately written, society for centuries will look back at lockdowns as the most incredible mistake in human history.

I can skin a buck and run a trotline…

Some random thoughts on the matter:
  • Having a ton of cash laying around actually reduces interest rates, right? If you have a ton of cash, but there's nothing to buy of value, it's still better to let people borrow it.
  • Biden and co have to get rid of the unemployment benefits. The economy requires supply and demand. It doesn't do poor people any good to give them money when there is nothing available to buy. This is Russia 1980 bullshit, btw.
  • I don't think you're going to see long term inflation; I think you're going to see it equalize at some point.

What benefits remain? I thought both the expanded payment and the COBRA subsidy expired.

Expanded benefits are gone, but the underlying benefit remains and iirc they also removed or relaxed the looking for work requirement.

Also the child tax credit is ongoing.

Those are just for starters.

I'm pretty sure the looking for work requirement is back, at least an article I read said so. Also, I don't think the existence of standard unemployment that has always existed is relevant here.

It's at least relaxed. That's why we see the unemployment numbers and labor participation in such disagreement. Unemployment only included people on benefits actively looking for work.

Standard unemployment is at issue especially when they expanded the definition of who qualifies. Now those people are getting payouts for several months to come. Then add in all the ancillary benefits they get if they're on unemployment, and it's no wonder noone works. If you make less than 75k per year, you're way better off just staying in the draw.

Thanks to the CDC major overstepping on their eviction moratorium, now there is a major eviction backlog. So that's hidden free money

Extremely low labor participation contributes to production and distribution bottlenecks. Add in the endless tidal wave of cash going out the door, and you see inflation impacting fuel and transportation cost and shadow taxing wage earners.

Voila. Stagflation

why are meat prices so high, but not being passed to the farmer?

(was thinking of raising a few myself due to beef quickly becoming a "champagne luxury" according to Bloomberg...!)

They don't need to legislate "progressive" Green New Deal bullshit when they can use China Virus and biden EOs to begin accomplishing their goals. As AOC's Chief of Staff admitted, the GND isn't about the climate, it's about a radical change of the entire economy. Got to have "equity". Commie f*cks.

Will fat ass leftist believers still be happy riding a bicycle and looking for some good grilled grasshopper recipes?

I would estimate roughly around half the population can be manipulated through government propaganda. Some people would eat their own sh*t if Rachel Maddow told them it would save the plant and if they didn't they were a racist. They would rally around the cause just like they have with so many bullsh*t social engineered issues.

Was reading a pretty interesting article the other day and it was saying how everything democrats do is super bad and all republican things are great. It was pretty wild stuff.

Commies and authoritarians aren't so bad either, the bad press they get is just people overreacting. 🙄

Good point. May have to eat those grasshoppers raw.

Remember that we were totally energy independent 2 years ago, actually exporting energy!

Better to buy foreign and pretend we're green. It FEELS gooooood. Similar to shipping our trash to China for them to burn or dump in the ocean, or using their slave labor and polluting manufacturing plants to produce our cheap shit.

Hopefully we will all survive the next 3 years until a Republican saves the day. Either way I’m stalking up on water and supplies and hunkering down. World could literally end with this guy in office he’s a Democrat!

You tell me. I don’t watch the news and have no clue. Saw an article in the Louisville CJ maybe a year ago asking the same question. Went straight to the retail (aka, groceries), and they all said, we haven’t raised profits. The packers all said the same. As did slaughter house and direct buyers from producers. So that leaves producers as the ones lying (in the public eye). Well, I can show you my record of loss each year from my tax return, if you want to see it. It’s not pretty. So, form your own conclusion. Somebody is yanking our chain. Look up 🙄

I put my head down, work my ass off, come home and take care of my family. I do very well professionally and have never had any issues in this great country no matter who the president. Haven’t watch the news in over a year and havent noticed any measurable difference in my life no matter who is in office. I suspect my life will, in fact, continue quite nicely for years to come. :)

Truly glad for you. I am. Do you mind telling what kind of work you do? If not, it’s ok with me. Just curious.
