Eaglestaff scheduled Zoom w/ Cats.

Every kid in the portal that averages 15+/gm is the only or top scoring threat on his team.
So are you saying we should raise every shooter's %'s 3-5% points?

His last 4 games: 0, 14, 51, 6
His 3pt shooting in those last 4 games: 0-4, 0-4, 8-18, 0-2
Even in the 14 pt game, he was 5-14 overall, which is not good.
So he was unplayable in HALF of those games.

The 10 games after he put 40 on Bama (in 30 shots),
he went 14-59 from 3, that is 23.7% over 10 game stretch.
That is nowhere close to acceptable.
He’s not gonna be asked to carry the scoring load here. Also better coaching will help develop his game. I think you are diving too much into details.

Not every guy averaging 15 ppg has played an elite SEC team and put 40 on their heads. Also, I can go pick and choose Jaxson Robinsons bad games, or Breas bad games. The fact is, he's shown he CAN produce. It doesn't mean he has to be a starter. Plus, being at UK, when he does have those games, Pope can pull him and we will be fine.

The 40 points on Alabama is an outlier. Remember Mitch was so enamored with Billy Clyde beating Louisville in the NCAA he hired him. Look what that got us.

You won't ever see me complain about getting a shooter. As long as we got other dudes that can drive and kick.
to me, that is the answer.....a point guard that can create off the dribble
We know that Perry can not, Lewis we don't know....haven't seen Thomas enough to know his abilities, Dent can.
Maybe a scoring small forward could do this. Oweh can create for himself, but he isn't the best passer. Johnson we don't know.
Would like to see this kid & Wilkerson wind up @ UK........really would be tough to defend with Oweh,

Yeah Wilkerson over Eaglestaff for me.
Personally I think Eaglestaff would be recruited for a complementary bench role. Essentially a Brea replacement even though they’re different level of shooters from an efficiency and willingness standpoint.

Wilkerson is being sold as a Lanier type for this cycle. That’s not a bench piece.

Both were leading scorers on their team but UND was like 90 spots lower in KenPom than Sam Houston. UND went 12-21 this season.

I’m sure others will know better but I think the Eaglestaff’s have been big in that region for a couple generations. Like his grandfather played at UND, dad coaches AAU, etc. Might have the type of basketball character our staff finds appealing, idk.

A lot of folks didn't want Lamont last year as well. I trust this staff to get the right guys. They have MORE than earned that.
I get "trusting the staff".
But really, did anyone not want Lamont? Well I guess that isn't surprising, because many often just look at the superficial stuff (PPG, RPG, APG) and don't dig deeper, don't consider DEFENSE and etc...

I have dug deeper into his offensive stats, and his defense isn't a PRO for him, it's a CON.
But I am NOT a coach, nor have I watched any real video of him (highlight video makes anyone look good).

I see on here all the time that we need defensive players but as long as the team that scores the most wins, shooters who can shot 3’s will be in high demand defense or not. UK has three freshman that can shot when they arrived on campus.

Didn’t want him at all might be too strong, but I’ll eat crow and admit that around this time last year, I considered Butler more of a defensive specialist and wasn’t convinced he could be an all-around point guard at an SEC level. He’s clearly proven me to have been completely wrong about that.

Obviously Pope should get the guys he wants for his team but my first question would be, is Eaglestaff that much better than a similar player with more than one year of eligibility remaining?

The multiple years of eligibility is great but has its own drawbacks:
1. No guarantee the player actually stays multiple years(draft, transfer)
2. Average players could clog the roster from being of interest to a star recruit in the future
3. Do the multi year players from the portal impact current players? I.e. you take a commitment from a 3/4 freshman that did better than Noah but projects as a bench piece. What path does Noah now see for his UK career. If you sign a junior(turning senior) it’s easier for a guy like Noah to see an eventual opportunity.

Yeah I’d agree with that. His defense is lacking as well. Would be a nice scoring punch as 6th man.

But also the team that prevents their opponent from scoring more Wins.

That’s not what happened lol. File this into the large stack of fake things that we fans say that are not true. I’m not rehashing the whole “Billy Gillispie would have been hired by almost every school in the country” again because it really doesn’t matter. Throwing facts at some people on this topic is like tossing seeds into the Grand Canyon and expecting an orchard.
