Padgett's 3 was the greatest single sports high I've ever experienced in my life. Pure, unadulterated euphoria. Couldn't even figure out what to do with myself.
Emergency rooms were over run with Dukies complaining of lockjaw. Not a single one on way out said good game guys.I wish I could've seen the Duke fans reaction after the game. Did any Duke fan cry?
It's not so much that they were Kentucky born(though that didn't hurt). It was the fact that these were the guys who stuck around through probation, didn't have all that much God-given talent but played with 150% heart and they were oh-so-close to a Final Four. It's worth obsessing over.
Mills was with about 2 minutes left and it gave us a 1-point lead, which we promptly lost again but it was awesome because it was the first lead after being down 19. Padgett's shot was with about 40 seconds and we were tied, putting us up 3 and sealing Shushefskee and Wojahowskee's fates.Padgett and Mills both hit huge threes. Which one put us up finally and which one gave us the four point lead?
simply? I cried - literally bawled my eyes out.
I have special eyesIf you literally bawled your eyes out then that means your eyes came out of your head. Was it like that scene in Minority Report?
great, now that song is going to be in my head all dayShe got Betty Davis eyes.
As already noted we played much better D on that play than the one in '92. That was basically just a 15 foot jump shot by a guy who didn't miss that night. In '98 Avery had to take a much more difficult shot. I was confident it wasn't going in. I really don't remember sweating it much other than it was a close game at the end. One of Tubby's better coaching moments was realizing K didn't have any more TO's, and not calling any himself. If they'd been able to call a couple late it could have very well changed the result.
Okay.... during that game with 4 or 5 seconds to go... what was your feeling before Avery missed that shot. Were you sensing deja vu? Or did you say "Not this time. We've learned our lesson."
not much made of it but near the end when jeff shepherd shot his first free throw and the ref handed the ball back to jeff, Ratface called a timeout. shouldnt that have been a technical?
I'm here to tell ya, that was one heck of a party driving up I-75 from Florida, over Jellico Mountain and into the Bluegrass.I live in St Pete and had a bunch of cousins and uncles in town for game. They were all heading home after the game.My wife and step mother didn't go and watched on TV,at half time my wife said my stepmother looked at her and said it's going to be a long ride back to Kentucky. The game ended and she said the ride got a lot shorter.
I was there in the portable bleachers. The swing of emotions was Euphoria!! Once Tubby went small, Turner destroyed Dook while Mills and Padgett finished them off.
great, now that song is going to be in my head all day

Was there in the Thunder Dome I believe they called it then. Had great seats too. Well at 10 min remaining & 17 points down my head was in hands. At 9:30 to go it began... You could feel it coming. Hearts were pounding. At 5 min left noticed Coach K had no timeouts left. Writing was on the wall then I felt. There on out Cats controlled the tempo play by play it seemed. Turners burner was on! Wojo's jock was laying on the court. Cats were running on all cylinders. Tubby coached an excellent game. No way that last shot was going in! Buzzer!!!! Place went absolutely nuts. Duke fans slowly walked out hanging their heads. Cat fans were lighting cigars standing by their seats with real big grins! Off to an beachside joint for oysters & beer. I still have my UK hat I wore for that game as well as at the F4 games in San Antone. Didn't mean to babble but brought back treasured memories. A step down The Glory Road!
What I remember about being at the game was their was about 38,000 fans there,.22,000 UK fans 8,000 Duke fans and everyone left was pulling for Duike. You could HEAR the Cat fans.
That doesn't make sense, isn't St. Pete much closer to Durham than Lexington, and thus it'd be easier for the Duke fans to get there? I mean they bounce around like a bunch of idiots at Cameron...surely their fans would be more dedicated than that?
