Duke effect: Reddish averaging 7 points/game. Jabari Parker and Jahlil Okafor out of the NBA.

Who's taking Duke's legit NBA players since 2010 over ours?

Duke top 13:

Irving - All Star
Kennard
Allen
Rivers
Trent Jr.
Tatum - All Star
Parker
Barrett
Ingram - All Star
Zion - All Star
Banchero
Carter
Bagley

Kentucky top 13:

Wall - All Star
Shai
Fox
Murray
Maxey
Herro
Booker - All Star
Johnson
Randle - All Star
Davis - All Star
Bam - All Star
Towns - All Star
Boogie - All Star

We've got a huge advantage at guard and down low, but they have the elites at wing forward.

We're so deep with legit NBA players. Our 13 man roster wouldn't even include PJ, Quickley, Knight, Vanderbilt, MKG, Noel, Richards, Monk, Kanter, or Bledsoe.

Barrett and Banchero might be future all-stars a few years from now; yet, Shai, Fox, Maxey, Herro, Keldon, and Murray are knocking on the door right now.
Banchero is definitely a future all star as long as he stays healthy . Our non all stars ate at least all star like talent(Shai, Herro, maxey) and at least 2 will make the all star this year . Even Keldon is putting up all star numbers even tho I’m sure he won’t get voted in .

I hope Shai gets in if he keeps playing like this.

I want to rag on Duke too, but let’s be real. We have some dudes out of the league. Quickley’s not much better than Reddish for NY. Diallo sucks. Lyles sucks. Knox sucks. Noel sucks. Tyty hasn’t played a minute. We have some dudes tearing it up, but plenty of bums too and some players who are definitely on their way out of the league.

Murray
Booker
SGA
Keldon

All have been or are legit stars/superstars in the league. Duke is nowhere near that number. SOS's post is perfectly valid.

I’m sure it’s been said, but you forgot Tatum. I’m personally of the opinion people overrate how much where you go to school matters. None of those guys would be good now if they came here either. It’s not like we haven’t had a decent amount of 5 stars end up not doing anything.

I think most of them were probably going to be who they were no matter what. But if you compare our coaching staff’s track record with big men to dukes i think there’s a strong argument that Cal, Payne and Antigua could have done a better job preparing guys like Bagley, Okafor, Carter, Carey for better nba careers.

Carter is the only one of them there really living up to expectations and he even expressed some amount of regret about choosing Duke because they lied to him about Bagley.

We haven’t even talked about Willie Cauley Stein who, even though he has underperformed his draft position, overpeformed his high school ranking considerably. I think he was ranked in the 30’s or 40’s and was DPoY, a first team AA and the #6 pick.

A lot of guys have left Duke earlier than they should have. Guys like Jackson, Steward, Keels, Hurt. They leave because they are recruited over. I think Keels was dead set on the NBA all along.

What makes the Bagley thing even worse is they could have had Luka . They have a few scenarios in the draft like that .
1985: Taking Joe Kleine over Detlef Shrempf, Charles Oakley, Karl Malone and Chris Mullin.

1987: Taking Kenny Smith over Kevin Johnson, Reggie Miller, and Horace Grant.

1988: Taking Rick Berry over Rod Strickland.

1989: Taking Pervis Ellison over Glen Rice.

In those years alone, can you imagine if they drafted Malone, Reggie Miller, Strickland, and Rice?

My only rebuttal is that none of those UK guys you mentioned were as hyped as Bagley, Parker and Okafor. Noel maybe, but we knew his offense was always well behind his defense. Knox always had a passivity about him, Diallo was a freak athlete and TyTy has never been considered can’t-miss. Now you could say MKG and WCS were busts and I’d have to agree. But it does seem like Duke has seen more since 2010.

I like your list, but you forgot a Dukie that is actually pretty good. He also happens to be their one major success from lower/unranked status. Seth Curry. Hes better than half the guys on that Duke list.

Would also say Parker and Winslow had terrible injury luck that stunted their improvement.

Ohkafor and Bagley were fantastic college players, they have just failed to develop the skills to be stars in the modern nba. We would not have used them any differently while they were here. It’s on them at that point.

Then maybe you weren't paying close enough attention back then.

Parker was considered a generational talent.

So was Bagley and Okafor. Reddish was #1 in his class for a long time, as was Carey.

How many of those guys has UK gotten that ended up being a bust?
Skal, MKG, Noel, Harrison Twins All top ranked but never panned out like they were projected. I do agree though that Dukes list is longer
