duke completely surpasses iu as a program

Questions for the audience...Is UCLA still a blue blood or just resting on its past history? Is Duke without K> than UCLA without Wooden?

UCLA has been to 5 FFs and 1 title since Wooden ( 6th FF was vacated in 1980). Duke had 3 FFs and 2 title games prior to Krzyzewski.

Actually 4. (Three under Bubas in the 1960's and Bill Fosters 78 squad.)

UCLA as you stated has gone to several Final Fours post-Wooden and won a title. Their fan support IMO is what differentiates them from the other programs. Their fan support just stinks by comparison. (Though they do have the most rings)

Cool to see a Vic Bubas mention since I'd be ecstatic if Duke could hire a coach of that caliber coach post-Krzyzewski.

As far as UCLA fans, that's not a surprise. LA fans do have a reputation for being a bit fairweathered as well as one for arriving to games late and leaving them early.

Umm.... Kansas was already "ahead" of Indiana, but none of those other programs are ahead of Indiana. IU will always have a nice little niche as the 6th blueblood out of UK, UNC, Duke, Kansas, and UCLA.

How can you honestly say with any legitimacy that programs like Syracuse and Florida have surpassed Indiana? That is a complete joke. I also wouldn't rank UConn, Louisville, or Michigan State above Indiana, but at least those 3 are closer to IU than freakin' Syracuse and Florida. It makes you look like an idiot homer when you try and rationalize why Florida basketball is greater than Indiana basketball.

I was talking about the last 20 years, the OP mentioned when going back to 1990's and the success that Duke has had vs. IU since then. I misunderstood that the OP was talking about Duke passing them all-time (I agree).

When looking at my list, within the last 20 years or so the programs I mentioned have absolutely surpassed IU as a program, in terms of wins, titles, final fours, conference titles, etc. (what other metrics would you base it on?) UF specifically has more titles, NCAA runner-ups, wins, and final fours than IU so yes during that time-period they were a much better program.

However, I am not saying they have passed them as an elite program all-time.

It's interesting to look at it at different windows.

At the close of the 1989-90 season, Duke was the 6th winningest program of all time(IU was 12th) and had been to 8 Final Fours and 4 NCAA Finals. (4 FF's/2 title games under K, 4 FF's/2 title games under two other coaches) (at that time IU only had six FF's all time total but they had won an impressive five times in six trips. They now have 8 FF's) Duke was the #1 Bridesmaid at that time. Just could not win the big one, I'm sure they had the distinction of "Best program without an NCAA Championship."
Fast forward 25 years and Duke is no longer 0-8 in FF's, they've won it 5 times in 8 more trips to the promised land and moved up two more spots on the all-time victory list from 6th to 4th and are one of only four schools with 2,000+ wins.
I felt with the combo of wins and FF'S and 4 titles prior to 2015 that they moved ahead of IU anyhow but for those who lean strongly to NCAA Titles, that gap is now shut with IU and Duke. And Kansas now trails by 2 National Championships.

Can someone post the all time wins list for the top 10 that includes the 2015 season?
i guess the specific year mid-late 80's or early 90's doesn't matter in that they trended in opposite directions since that general time. to be fair to 64, 66, 78 & 86 i must retract my "up and coming" statement. but without a title i'll hold to the fact that duke pre title was not a blublood. maybe business class? no disrespect but maybe like st johns? less wins at that point but more ff's than the johnnies. very respectable.

All Kansas has is regular seasons. UConn is as much a blue blood as Kanas is. Hell, Louisville is too.

Kentucky is the best program of all time, and by any measure you want to base it on. But to say Kansas isn't a "Blue Blood" is a joke. By your argument UNC wouldn't be a Blue Blood either. There's only 4-5 Blue Bloods, and Arizona, UCONN, UL, Michigan State and Florida aren't among them.

UNC has five titles. They may not all be legit but they are there. But Kansas is a blue blood. They've been doing it for a long time.
