DOWN GOES DUKE

How long will it take Scheyer to figure out that grown men beat inexperienced freshmen 99% of the time when the pressure is on?

A key play to me was when Tyrese Proctor held onto the ball and ignored passing to a wide open Flagg or Kneuppel and then bricked the front end of the 1 and 1. Proctor has been the Poster Boy for Duke's insane hype machine for 3 yrs now-he was supposed to be a "can't miss" guy and we're here now. He's got a propensity to play "Hero" ball and it's killed them. Told my Boss who is the biggest Dookie on the planet that I think he'll **** them when it mattered and tonight--it was Tyrese Proctor time! Well done Mate! Way to ignore your open teammates-allow UH to stop the clock and throwing up a brick at the FT line made it even sweeter. Some moments are too big for certain guys and big games aren't a Proctor thing.

Duke has played 1 game in neutral court territory since earlier in the year and they lost tonight as they lost to UK and Kansas. In a game where their followers will say "we were the better team......" which is true in terms of roster investment/talent. Thing is..you have to make sure the $ doesn't got to role players heads and well.....speak on the fouls/non fouls, etc...this was a massive play in the meltdown from a guy who has made it a habit to meltdown.

For those who want to consider NY/NJ area "neutral" for Duke-you obviously don't understand their Subway Alums. So since end of year--their games in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Newark were pro Duke-they go to San Antonio and repeat history with the early season losses in Chicago and Vegas.

Their fanbase tried to tell us he was going to be a top3 lottery pick like 2 years ago and all he did was fall off. I might have to go find that thread and bump it lol.

And yeah northeast is BIG Duke country. Not even because any of those turds went to school there.. its mostly just bandwagon fans and a bit of a void in college basketball teams for NY, MJ, Mass. Etc.

Simple answer: Coaching

Close calls down the stretch are a part of every tight game. Nothing egregious here IMO.

There is plenty of blame to go around for the Blue Devils on the court and on the bench, but the bottom line is: As a coach, you gotta be able to bring this one in for a landing. Posting a 14 point second half lead with 8 minutes+ to go...a 9 point lead with 2:15 to go....6 point lead with :047 on the clock....giving up a 9-to-1 run in the last 1:14...etc....etc.

This is all on HC Scheyer.

When you're down 1 with the ball and 0:17 to play; and (despite a history of late-game walks, trips, and fumbles), you design ANOTHER off-the-dribble ISO for Flagg when you have a shooter like Kneuppel as another option makes me chuckle as a UK fan.

This one will haunt Scheyer as badly as Cal's Memphis meltdown against Kansas in 2008...perhaps worse.

The finals are set. Now I can scout some red, white, and black gear in my closet to cheer on the Cougars on Monday as I think UF's HC Todd Golden presents some long-term challenges in the SEC. I don't want to see any more glory for the Gators.

Also, I live near the NC border and the Lumbee folks are celebrating as they watch one of their own (Kelvin Sampson) represent their tribe on a national stage.

Congratulations to Coach Sampson on a great win over Duke. Good Hunting for Gators on Monday!

GBB!

This is absolutely devastating for them. Their chance of catching us in this lifetime is now ZERO.

Duke had a Jordan whistle all tournament. There is no way on earth Houston should have even been in a position to make the plays they did. Duke played tight, and they let Houston get back in the game. Duke lost to Clemson on the road and lost to us in similar late game circumstances.

It was a bad call to let Flagg run a dribble iso for the winning shot instead of working to find a better shot. Houston is a great defensive team, with tons of length and experience. Everyone watching knew that Flagg was going to dribble it down to the paint, spin to his left and take a fade away shot.

Duke could have gone against the late game Iso tendency and used screens and a ball reversal to set Kneuppel or Proctor up for a relatively open shot for the win.

YES! I have several Lumbee friends here in WNC, they are pumped!

Ian Eagle was heartbroken. But as an allusion to his earlier call, I was FULL MAST!

Grant Hill having a front row seat was the 2nd best part to knowing Coach K and "Mickey" were there to see this. Hope Ladyboy Ken Jeong was there too. Put his azz back in the trunk and leave him in the Desert.

I thought ian eagle was consistent during the melt down. Rafterry sounded sad and grant hill wasn't talking at all.

…and all of college basketball thanks you.

This has to rank in the Top 3 of Epic Duke double-digit second half Tournament Collapses.

My ranking:

3. 2002. Playing a 5-seed Indiana in the Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena, Duke is up 17 inside 12 minutes-and pretty much falls apart. IU is up 4 with 4 seconds to go when Jay Williams hits a 3- and is fouled. A free throw sends it to OT, but he misses. Duke gets the offensive rebound, and misses a put back that would have won it. Given the way the tourney plays out, this likely costs Duke a title.

1. (Tie) Last night. Up 14 with 8.01 to go, and 9 with 2:07 to go, Duke loses to Houston in the Final Four. Strong likelihood this costs Duke a title.

1. (Tie) 1998. St. Petersburg. Duke is up 17 with 9:17 to go. Kentucky storms back to revenge 1992. Cats win championship. This loss possibly costs Duke that title.

Am I missing any Duke historic losses? I know they were a heavy favorite over UConn one year and lost but that was a closer game throughout.
Now the team of proctologists can begin the process of extracting the sports media noses from Cooper Flagg's rear end.

Flagg fouled Edwards the very first possession of the game and they let it slide.

And when they open their eyes, they realize it really happened.
Houston really beat them.

And then the pain returns like it did last night. Only after hard drinks and sleeping pills were these fans able to coerce their bodies to sleep. But now they have stirred in the early morning, their brains just barely sending the fully-awake messaging to the rest of their bodies that it really did happen.

And now...

The pain of a thousand "what ifs."

What if Proctor hadn't dribbled off his foot?

What if the ref hadn't called the over-the-back foul on Flagg?

What if Proctor had made those two free throws?

What if Flagg had made the game-winning pullup jumper?

And now that their eyes are open, they realize that the saints of the world rejoice at their misery and downfall.

They realize that worshipping all of those years at Satan's throne room of hell has its cost and taken its toll.

They were expecting a title in Coach K's last year, and yet the Devil gave them Mark Williams' missed free throws.

They were expecting a title the year with Zion, and yet the Devil spawned a missed free throw by RJ Barrett.

And now they were surely expecting a title with Cooper Flagg, but once more the Devil, of whom the Dukies named their mascot to honor, ironically allowed the dark magic of the last 30 years, magic that allowed thousands of refs to provide favorable whistles to the Dukies, to reverse it's spell and turn on the Devils.

What's this?

An over-the-back foul on Cooper Flagg himself.

And to ice the devilishness of it all...a 62% free throw shooter from Houston calmly stepping up to the free throw line and making the front-end of a one-on-one, followed by swooshing his second free throw for the lead.

Yes, as the morning sun spills light, all of this haunting imagery now scurries through the collective minds of Satan's children, and they shutter once more for now they know that the Prince of Lies has once again foiled them and that the cost for Cooper coming to Durham is this infinite, insufferable pain. This relentless maddening pain...

Wakey, wakey, ye little shaky babies. If you listen closely, you can hear your Dark Master giggling in the shadows.

Duke as a program exemplifies all the ego, elitism, and privilege that finds its origin in hell with their master of ceremonies, Satan himself, and tonight they are burning bright with hellfire in their putrid souls. Their mascot glorifies Satan, and tonight they got treated like Satan, getting cast into the lake of fire.

Burn, hell wenches. Burn.
EVERYBODY hates Duke. Their fans just don't realize this.

My son in law, who's a Gator fan, told me this morning at his son's bday party, "Here's my list in order of the Final Four teams I want to win the title: 1. Florida 2. Auburn 3. Houston."

Like all the worst losses I've had for my teams.. you at least go to bed still in a frenzy of it all (and still probably some alcohol in you).. but that first wake up and thinking for a nanosecond "wait did that happen?". And realizing "yep, it did".. is an all time gut punch.

For the stage this game was on, it has to be the worst collapse and choke job in 20 30 years.

And yes, I am going IN on all my Duke fans. Started at 7 am. Let's gooooooo!

I have a bach party coming up with some of them. I haven't decided on what shirt to make, either a frowny face Cooper Flagg or the picture of their win probability plummeting.

One of my friends is also a Pats fan (go figure) and he tried to say this wasn't the same thing as the Pats coming back 28-3, and we all just laughed at him lol.

Going into the game undefeated and the odds on favorite to win made it a collapse IMHO.

In that regards, sure. But it still wasn't being a 99% chance to win with 33 seconds left. Duke might not have been undefeated, but they were ALSO the odds on favorite to win the title, and they lost in embarrassing fashion. People will sparingly remember how Kentucky lost to Wisconsin (obviously us UK fans will).. but EVERYONE will forever remember just how embarrassingly bad last nights choke job was. I mean this goes beyond college basketball.
