I still feel he will start and have a good sophomore season for the Cats. That year of experience under Cal system will benefit him a lot. I'm predicting he averages at least 10 ppg.

The way that Diallo played at the FIBA games, I think he may have a hard time beating out several of our other players. I don't see him starting over Knox or P.J. I know Cal tried him at P.G. but don't see him being the P.G. over Green. Can he beat Gabriel out? We also have SKJ and Richards likely to be the centers perhaps even Wynyard. Diallo's shooting did not exactly make him a 2 guard either. Will be interesting to see how this all works out.

I have no plans to sleep on him, for several reasons...

He reminds me of Poythress. Unlimited potential, but needs to realize what he does best in order to be great. Alex loved his shot and ball handling skills, but at the end of the day he needed to be a lock down defender and crash the boards with the his freakish athleticism.

Wenyen is long and quick. He needs to be that guy for us that can guard multiple positions and protect the rim. He can be a game changer if he focuses on those things. But, like Alex, he is what he is until I see real growth in his game.

It's not that funny. If Diallo doesn't learn to shoot, he's gonna clog things up.

I could stoop to your level and accuse you of player bashing and not having faith in Cal....... but you're lucky I dont twist things that way and I'll say that I agree.... we need Diallo or someone else to shoot decent to open things up.

Sure we need Diallo, and he'll be fine IMO. But if not, we have others to pick up the slack. PS, You've stooped so low, you couldn't stoop any further pal. Throw that C word out there again in reference to women to show us how you are a "real man". [roll]:flush: Lucky for you they buried your meltdown post. It was EPIC. You come across as pond scum.

Keep in mind, the '16 was loaded. 10 of the first 11 draft picks were Freshmen. 16 Freshmen in the 1st round. Gabriel was ranked top 15. The only guy ranked higher according to 247 composite rankings that returns is Bridges. Think about that.

Now keep in mind that the '17 class is considered weaker and the only competition we have seen most of our stud recruits against are other '17 recruits. We haven't watched them one second against elite college players.

So, we have all but dismissed a player with a year experience, starting experience as well, who was part of a strong class. Why? Because we have watched our '17 recruits play fairly well in All-Star games against other '17's.

I am guilty of the hype as well.

But if we look at it, should anyone be surprised if a 5-star top 15 ranked Soph in the superior '16 class starts over these '17 guys?

I just think we get enamored with the "shiny, new toys" and often forget about these returning players.

Diallo will start. You can sleep on that.

Everyone has know Diallo's biggest weakness is he can't shoot. Diallo has been pegged as our starter at 2 guard since the day he got on campus. Diallo and Knox will be in the starting lineup. I can guarantee that.

Never debated that. Said he was going to clog things up and drive people nuts like Briscoe did if he can't shoot, and he will do that if he can't shoot. We have other options this year, however. Here's hoping he has a great year.

Happy I missed his post on women but I've seen enough of his other posts to not be a fan of his. BTW, you are right on the money regarding Diallo, we need for him to work on and improve his shot big time.

We started a whole thread just for you to post in, please use it.

You beat me to it! My exact words!!!

Plus, he already made this exact prediction a few weeks ago.

Smooth, please use your own thread for your amazing lightbulb thoughts. That way, we can keep track of them and see prove to everyone just how smart you really are when they all happen. Truly, it's a thread that meant for your Nostradamus level predictions.

I don't care about the criticism I may receive from this, but Gabriel was my favorite player to watch last year...early in the season. He hit a wall as we all saw. When he was at 100% effort, I thought he was fun to watch. I have high hopes for him this season, meaning I think he starts early on then we will see what happens. I see him averaging 12 pts, 5 rbs, and a steal.

Well despite the comments, who sits instead of Diallo? I do think the post about his defensive abilities and Cal's history does make sense where he will start, except he got schooled in the FIBA games on defense making several silly fouls. I also agree the Briscoe analogy on offense seems to be likely true. That's his strength; attacking the basket. So, he's our two guard over perhaps better shooters for that position? Or do you think he beats out P.J. or Gabriel, because I don't see him beating out Knox.

I know. What if Diallo starts at pg, Knox at sg, with Gabriel at the 3. This is early on, like first 10 games or so. Then, we see our rotation take shape and who knows who steps up.

I didn't see any of the FIBA games, did Diallo really look that rough? Just by your comments, you don't seem very high on him.

Diallo wasn't bad, don't get me wrong. But, a first round NBA potential draft pick? He certainly didn't stand out and was actually in some ways the typical Cal player. Really great in up-tempo, can dunk with the best of them, athletic, etc. He likely will be a starter but the imagined superstar was not on display at least in those FIBA games.

Thanks for the insight.
Hopefully we have enough shooters.

Quade, Diallo, Knox, Vanderbilt, Richards, and Washington will all be ahead of Gabriel on the depth chart from day 1, in my completely worthless opinion. Can't see him starting over any 2 of those 6 players.

Hope he proves me wrong and plays as well as a taller MKG/shorter WCS all year long while leading us to the title and being a top 5 NBA Draft pick!

I wouldn't put any money on that happening, though...

He has loads of talent but is very very raw. His skill is below average at this point but improvement should come easy with someone so gifted. I expect the Diallo that starts the season will look nothing like the one we see in the NCAA.

No. Someone posted his stat line a few days ago. He shot over 40%, averaged double figures (like 12), w/ like 3-5 assist/rebounds. If I recall he also averaged only 18 minutes. Overall, it was solid.

Absolutely. I think Baker could be that guy. Very effective scorer.

Diallo being freakishly athletic is great. He will do so much for us defensively. The kid is going to block shots, rebound, and get into passing lanes. But you are correct in that we will need him to make perimeter shots otherwise he will find himself running into a thick wall every time he tries to drive it.

I don't think Baker will get any of Diallo's minutes thought

No, not exactly.....I am not trying to burst any bubbles but his best games and what built up those stats were against the joke teams. I hope that he turns out to be a superstar but right now those expectations should be toned down just a bit.
