Matt Bevin is a "religious zealot" who led a movement to oust Tom Jurich because the governor was unhappy with the KFC Yum Center deal, according to former men's basketball coach Rick Pitino.

In his new memoir, "Pitino: My Story" — released Tuesday — the Hall of Fame coach portrayed his firing as part of the fallout of an intricate plot to rein in Jurich, the former athletic director. Bevin was allied with state leaders and businessmen upset over his handling of the financing renegotiations with the city and state.

"In the end, the governor has the purse strings that control the university, so Tom had to give in and give $2 to $3 million more back to the state, which he didn’t want to do," Pitino said.

The governor's office did not immediately respond to an email Tuesday morning seeking comment.

In the book, Pitino claimed that Jurich was a source of ire for Kentucky's Republican governor. And Bevin created a new university board of trustees with members, namely Chairman J. David Grissom and pizza mogul John Schnatter, who deliberately were hostile to the athletic director responsible for much of the university's success, Pitino wrote.

It took a very long time...but in the end...a lot of fans in the BBN complaining online about what was going on paid dividends....apparently there were powerful people watching. Many of my posts focused on Jurich and the YUM deal. For a long time I had "The Rent Is Too Damn Low" meme as my sig. I take a great deal of pleasure reading this CJ article. Jurich couldn't bully us into submission. Good job gang!

Tom says if he didn't say it it was a lie.Pitino says his book is 100% the truth, dam hard ti figure out who is lying.

I'm going to need a flow chart to follow who is lying at UofL, who is paying hookers & strippers and who is embezzling University funds. Math is hard!

Just remember there's one universal truth in everything that has gone on at UL:

Rick Pitino believes Rick Pitino is the most victimized, innocent person in the entire history of the world. Just ask Rick Pitino.

Bevin was unhappy with the Yum deal. Ya think, along with about 2 million Kentuckians.

There were "about 2 million" who were able to do NOTHING about it. There is really no secret that Jurich was going to dig his feet in. I followed the story very closely for a very long time and bitched about it here ever chance I got. So what Pitino said about Jurich is fact. Then you have to look at the other players involved and why NOTHING was happening. There was no secret that the finance deal was bound to fail. Something eventually was going to have to happen....but once again nothing was. Thankfully the General Assembly forced the audit of the YUM deal and the wheels were set in motion. I'm guessing some of those folks in the General Assembly are members of the BBN.

What is really sad, or I guess funny, depending on how you look at it, UL fans on the Scout board are now believing Rick after reading the book.

This just shows how stupid the UL fans are. Most of the ones I know have some book knowledge but have no common sense.

Hell, I'm a teacher and I'm voting for Bevin. Man's done nothing but bring in jobs and tear the guts out of the cesspool that is UofL leadership. Bravo!
Might wanna rethink that vote if you ever want to retire since teachers get no social security. He tried real hard to take away the retirement health insurance and COLA. (which were already prepaid by the teachers from deductions made out of checks for years). He doesn't give a crap about anything but the $$$$ he and his pals can make from charter schools and the $$$$ he wants to force new hires to put into the stock market so his buddies can play with it and get richer. He is a Yankee con man using this state to get rich and make a name for himself. Cut from same cloth as Pitino. They butted heads because there was probably never enough space in the room for both of their egos and the resultant oxygen deprivation from the crap spewing from their mouths.

....who was instrumental in Jurich and Pitino being fired. For that fact alone....BBN should be in his debt. I will vote for him forever.

An anecdotal case of what I see as "future" and not current teacher greed does not impress me. Sorry. You guys are responsible for the millennial generation and their beliefs that have created ANTIFA and BLM and the Socialist party gains in the US.

"you guys" are responsible? What the hell are parents for?

Hey Doc, BLM are my initials. What the heck did I have to do with the Socialists? I'm totally against "the Bern"

I did not mean to throw you under the bus but I get very emotional in threads about Jurich. Sorry...

Never realized that all of the moral, ethical, social, political and religious beliefs of each generation of children is the sole responsibility of teachers. If you are a parent, that line of thinking helps explain a lot about why kids are so lacking in those areas. Teachers spend zero hours a day teaching those topics. They are too busy teaching core content to worry about BLM, ANTIFA and socialism. That ideology is the result of broken homes and absent parents that are more focused on their next high/drunk than their own child. The mentality that it is all the responsibility of teachers is a big reason society is in the shape it's in.

Certainly the administrators are responsible or the crap that is actually being shoveled into their little minds. I made a blanket statement because there are certainly good teachers who are frustrated by having their hands tied. But seriously, when you teach history and the founding fathers are ignored or at best cast as flawed men who owned slaves etc.... that we are not exceptional as a country..... it is certainly worse at the university level but it is not exempt in k-12.

Just letting you know that you accidentally posted this on Rafters and not the Daily Kos .

So I take it you would be fine with the abolishment of the DOE?

That's a pretty big leap from his post to this take. Not real sure how you got there?

Well the core BS sucks. The government has destroyed the educational system. It's out of control and not looking to improve. Looks like the correct answer is to get the government out of schools if you actually care about improvement.

Taking the govt. out of the schools would be fine for kids of affluence...it'd be the death knell for the kids of lower income families getting any type of education.

I don't think that's the answer.

Federal or State? In its current form, if not abolished, cut to a much smaller level. 95 percent of any waste in education is at the local/state board and federal level. All of the local schools are operating on a shoestring budget with absolutely nothing to spare.
