Does Zion play this year?

Heard some talking heads speculating that Zion, while supposedly going through light walk throughs with the team, may be held out this year to make sure he's 100% healthy. Personally, I'm skeptical of that idea but anyone else heard anything? Add in the fact that the Pels are woeful and already pretty much out of a playoff berth barring an historical turnaround and maybe the management team is thinkging, 'Why risk further injury ala Durant for a lost cause this season?'

Has to be worrisome that he hasn't played a minute in regular season basketball and has already had a knee surgery. I said all along on this board that I would be very surprised if he was a 'generational' player in the NBA - too short, too heavy, too reliant on superior athleticism in college. While he showed flashes in preseason that he may indeed much more than just a spectacular dunker and athlete, the early injury is not a good sign, imo.

I'd like to see him play some in the NBA to see what he can do. For his sake, hope he isn't constantly injured and never gets to play at his 100% physical best. I know he's a Dookie but the kid seems like a good kid and I don't wish him any harm. Just never thought he'd be a transformational player in the NBA. Certainly the jury is still very much out.

Very possible that he doesn't, but I think it would be a mistake. He needs to get a feel for what his body can handle, or a feel for how he needs to change his body. If he gets hurt again, even if it's minor, then yeah, you shut him down. But holding him out of 82 games for an injury that rarely keeps guys out for more than a few months reeks of paranoia. He's going to have to play eventually.
 
We will just have to be content with this highlight

When the injury hit, I said he wouldn't make it to half his games, and it looks like it will be well under that. Pels are going no where and there's no need to rush Zion back.. Very likely he gets benched.

But I also said that Zion will never make it to 300 career games, and I'm going to stick with that. Just don't think his body can handle the 82-game gauntlet.

Doesn't seem like there's anyone game changing worth tanking for. I'd play him. Need to see what he can do and how much you can count on him.

I am thinking along these lines. Fat people just have a hard time playing basketball at the highest level. The amount of games and wear it takes on a body is just too much to overcome when you are the size of a blimp. Even if you can jump high and dunk. Physics is a bitch when you play basketball.

The Sixers essentially held Embiid out for a few years and that seems to be working out pretty well for them. Nola has no reason to rush this...

If a team tanks to get top picks the owners should subsidize the fans instead of the other way around.

Might want to check that 2nd one.. I think his career is about to be over. Although, he had a good run, Blake is always injured. He's going to wind up missing more than half the season this year.

I meant more so that both those guys were held out their first seasons and came back to play great and both won rookie of the year.
 
Bring him back when he's ready, let the All Star Break give him another bit of rest, and then manage his workload as needed the last three months of the season.

See how he feels, let him get some game reps, and know what he needs to work on this summer.

Not to mention as he gets older and matures he will add more weight.
 
I’ll never understand the ppl who wish a player (especially a 19 yr old kid) ill. Not being able to do something you love bc of health reasons sucks.
 
They may hold him out, to insure he can get rookie of the year next year. Ja Morant is looking pretty strong for that right now.

If he gains 40 pounds, it won’t matter.
 
I hope I am wrong, but I believe his body is to big for his legs to support his athletic abilities. He will not have a long career. I pray I am wrong.
